Hi

Not had this car for long and it appears that I get quite a bit of shaking/vibration in the passenger seat. Surely this isn't normal?

Another thing is left exhaust outlet is shaking but the right isn't.

Thanks for your help.

Check the bolts, there are only 4 to tighten IF loose.

Or maybe the seat is broken :dont know:

I'd check the engine mounts. They can cause vibrations when worn and also cause engine to sag lower.

Overuse of the passenger seat - check for heel marks on the headlining..... :dont know:

Hi

Thanks for the replies.

Don't think the seat is damaged is just vibrates.

How do I know if the engine mounts need replacing is there anything I should be looking at?

Hi,

Have a look at the exhaust tips you may be able to see the passenger side is lower than the other.

Not a very scientific method of checking them but without taking the mounts off I don't think you can see from underneath the engine.

If the mounts are original then odds on they will have stretched over the years.

They are an easy DIY job if you have a jack and a socket set. Lots of threads and videos on how to change them and what worn ones look like.

Your next dilemma will be to just change for OEM original or go for semi solid or solid mounts. Lots to choose from and what you get will depend on how deep your pockets are.

Changing the mounts will definitely help with the way the car feels and also should improve the gear change if it is a bit notch. You may also want to get the gearbox mounts changed at the same time.

Cheers :thumb:

My pax seat also annoyingly did this at tickover but since I've changed the engine mounts and also the gearbox mount (Powerflex upgraded) I haven't noticed it.
Actually I'd totally forgotten about it until this thread reminded me!

Any chance you could provide part numbers for the mounts, please?

Just a bit of a stupid thought on my part but is the engine on tick over nice and smooth or a little lumpy ?

I was just wondering that it might possibly be a misfire .

I'm not mechanic but it sounds pretty smooth to me.

Do you often have a passenger? If not I find having the seat a bit more upright stops it shaking at idle

Pretty much what I was going to write. Same here.

It must be a fine line if some of you are finding this happens with old engine mounts and replacing them cures the issue, as this is very often one of the trade offs in replacing/'upgrading' the engine mounts.

For instance, I never had the issue (of the vibrating passanger seat) , but then when I upgraded to the RSS engine mounts I did get vibration. (and it seemed to be quite a common symptom of the upgraded engine mounts)

It did seem to get lesser after a few months I guess as the engine mounts beded in?

In my case I thought it was a price worth paying for the improved handling.

Which engine mounts did you get?
