garage lift

just about to buy myself a new lift of some sort for my garage when working on the 993. I had been thinking of going for a mid rise scissor lift but I'm wondering how much access is blocked by one of these and have started to rethink and considering either the ezcarlift or the quickjack which both just fit under the sills (largely).

has anyone got any experience of these or any other recommendations ?

I can't accommodate a post lift as I'm working in a single domestic garage.

I can't help you, however please let us know what you decide because I'm also thinking about a scissor lift.

Th team at Center Gravity told me to buy one - probably so I can clean the underside properly which will make their job easier.

I'm getting a Quicklift when my garage gets redone over the summer. It meets my needs which are just basic, wheel changes, etc.

I was looking at one of these a while back but got distracted by other household purchases, might still go for one at some point

I've also been looking at this one which looks cracking value compared to most others.

Quite a few of the lower priced units including the QuickJack need a seperate air tank/supply whereas this unit does not.

there's a 'supply/tank unit' thing in the third picture (top left) in the photos for that lift so I think you'll find it exactly like all the others...

Not with you Peter?

The mid-rise scissor lifts are all quite similar, except that some like the ones sjr supply (http://www.sjrgarageequipment.co.uk/scissor-car-lifts/) are designed without end bars on the lifting frame, so in theory they make access a bit easier.

I've also been looking at the next level up from the scissor lifts (http://sm-t.co.uk/product-category/vehicle-lifts/mobile-lifts/) which leave the centre section clear.

However my dilemma is that both of these lifts are big and heavy and pretty much will need to stay in place, probably channeled into the garage floor if I want to be able to roll the car in an out manually (which I do).

This is why I've ended up thinking more about the EZcarlift and QuickJack which are light and removable. As far as I can see, the ezcarlift (http://blog.holden.co.uk/order-your-ezcarlift-now/) goes up higher and goes up without horizontal movement. However it's more expensive. Quickjack (https://www.quickjack.com/) comes with all the hydraulics etc, goes up quick, not as high, but it does involve some horizontal movement, so that's going to need some faffing when working in a small domestic garage.

Quickjack is significantly cheaper that ezcarlift though and their marketing is a lot more "slick" if that means anything of course.

I've seen both these with a 993 on, so I know both CAN work quite well, but still can't decide which way to go at the moment.

ah sorry for the confusion, I was commenting in relation to "Quite a few of the lower priced units including the QuickJack need a seperate air tank/supply"

I have a Quickjack and it doesn't have/need an air supply as it's hydraulic and the motor/tank is a small unit that's easily carried to wherever you need to lift the car..

I spent quite a bit of time looking at all the lift options and settled on this version:

https://www.automotechservices.co.uk/products/as-7532b-3-2t-mid-rise-scissor-lift/

The weight capacity is quite higher than I would ever need but that means its nice and sturdy so swinging on breaker bars under the car feels as safe as it ever could. The separate bases (only linked by hydraulic hoses) means you have some flexibility in the spacing and there is nothing to get in the way when dropping an engine etc.

Thanks for clarification Peter. :thumb:

Great info Jev and that's an awesome pic. Must have taken a while to stage.

I'm in the same boat but with a bit more flexibility as the garage is huge.
The garage floor may not be up to a 2 poster but I don't want to clutter the space with a scissor jack. I'm looking at a recessed system like:-AS-7532B 3.2T Mid Rise Scissor Lift but the Ezyjack looks interesting. Will it lift high enough for an engine drop?
