Brake caliper refurb

So my big reds on the 4S are now a bit big pinks so in need of a refurb. I understood that Pro Calipers in east ham is the place to go, however when i spoke with him he said that he can not and will not fit the Porsche decals on them, now i don't fancy just plain red calipers so that's a non starter. The other place that does them BCS seem to get terrible reviews on bad service and workmanship so that's not good either.

Can anyone recommend where i could get them done with new decals under the clearcoat in the southeast at a fair price for a good job?

Thanks

Peter

Look up a classic car restorer - they either do it in-house or out-source to reputable provider of the service.

It ain't cheap though - be warned. It will be around £1k for all four calipers including a new set of seals and pistons checked etc. Plus possible labour and courier to remove them and send them away and then re-fit.

Pete, I had mine done by ProCaliper through 9E and they have the stickers on them. If they didn't put them on then 9E must have. Shouldn't be too hard, put on high temp sticker, spray over with high temp lacquer, job done?

P

Hmmmm ok Piers, interesting, not sure I fancy putting stickers on straight and spraying them though, just want them to turn up finished.

I think I'll have a ring around.

The editor of Total 911 has just had his calipers repainted, with decals, at a company in Dorset. He had it written up in the magazine.
Difficult to understand that some will put the decals on and others will not when people are happy to advertise the process in a national magazine.

I used the wheel specialist in Ferndown Dorset , they are franchises so may not all offer the service . the painted mine in situ using high temp calliper paint they did a number of coats as per my instruction then they applied the stickers that I got off ebay a set ot 8 with 2 of 4 different sizes . they then applied a number of coats of high temp laquer again as per my instruction until I couldnt feel the lip of the sticker any longer as I wanted a super smooth finish . when I sold the gen1 the calipers still looked brand new and when I saw the car on Sunday they still looked perfect. :thumb:

I think Porsche waved their lawyer stick at ProCalipers when it was under a previous Porsche type name and I suspect he's a little frightened by them

Its called "Trademark infringement" and companies vociferously defend their trade marks. They have teams of lawyers just looking for incidents of the same.

I understand Porsche GB took up the matter with companies they knew who were indulging in the practice of trademark infringement (knowingly or unknowingly).

You would be if you know the sort of damages settlement awarded by courts to a plaintiff on a successful prosecution. It can run into millions....

Ergo, can i then just drop it off at OPC South london and get them to get it sorted, thus avoiding trademark infringements?

The simple answer is NO. Neither Porsche OPC or Porsche-approved bodyshops refurbish calipers. They only supply new calipers.
Ask me how I know.......

PS The names Cheshire911 not Ergo.......
(tongue in cheek)

All sorted chaps, thanks for the replies.

It's going to be serviced, calipers refurbed and wheels refurbed to a satin finish all taken care of at the same time.

Going to get it all done when the service is due in September.

Next question for you all, the front end could do with a respray for stone chips, quoted far more than I thought it would be....

How much would you expect a front end respray to be and where would you recommend?

I had mine done at Poole accident repair who are this areas approved porsche repairer £500 for the front bumper and £500 for the bonnet this was approved and comes with porsche warranty etc. and the colour match was perfect they even tweaked the mix to account for the paint being a few years old :thumb:
