Hi All,

Has anyone had any success repairing heat exchangers by brazing or plating, I have one side blowing at a corroded seam.

Other than buying new from OPC (very expensive) or used from say Fleabay, are there any aftermarket alternatives?

Cheers
Steve

Steve,

I recently bought a very good heat exchanger from Ebay. The flanges on mine were so badly corroded they were only being held to the car by the rust.

I’d keep looking as they are popping up quite often and significantly cheaper than new.

Good luck.

I’ve noticed that there’s usually drivers side heat exchangers on eBay but not very often the left side, probably because the flange bolting to the cat often rots out and breaks off where the bolts go through so the left side exchangers get bought very quickly when they get listed.

Hi Steve,

Dansk do a stainless steel set, I just been under a friend's 3.2 Carrera and they look very good.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks for the replies.

I have been keeping a eye on Fleabay but as AVI_8 said, more of one side than the other.

I found the Dansk parts online somewhere for earlier models but not yet for the 964

One for the to-do list.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

They must do them as I had a full Dansk system on my car before it was upgraded for the high performance engine.

Cheers,
Paul

I think Dansk have started making them for the 964 now, not cheap though still!

https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod126344/Exhaust-Heat-Exchanger-Porsche-964-C2---C4/

I would avoid buying any second hand units from this country to be honest. I bought a second hand left hand side exchanger that did appear to be in good condition, but still cracked unfortunately. Which meant I needed a second set within 12-18months! Bad luck I guess.

I bought a second hand set from USA along with a final silencer and they are in great condition, even the flange looks perfect which as someone said earlier, usually is the first bit to go.

Dansk didn't make them when I was buying mine, otherwise I would have probably stretched to buying a set from them for piece of mind

Hi Chris, thanks for the link. I didn't think to look there as I have had a a few disappointments with previous orders but I may well explore the Dansk option. I also share your concerns with used parts.

Cheers

I have a set of heat exchangers sat in the shed - been meaning to sell them but haven't found the time or the motivation. Off a Japanese import so not seen much salt. What would these sell for ?

Tried welding them up on my old 964 but didn’t last long. Someone on here had a correct side in gc for sale (£250) last year so problem solved.
