Hello everyone.

So I have had my Porsche Cayman for two months and I absolutely love it.
Everything has been going swimmingly until yesterday.

I was driving along merrily and noticed the volume was not working on the radio , no big deal I thought and carried on driving. A mile down the road and all the dashboard lights flashed on and now the dashboard is completely dead , no dashboard lights , I can't see how fast I'm going or how much fuel I have.

The car drives perfectly apart from this. I checked all the fuses with a fuse tester and all seem fine.

I have booked it into a Porsche specialist on Friday although the reviews don't feel me with joy, they are quoting me £85 per hour which is fine as long as they can find the fault.

I just wondered if any of you knowledgeable people have every had the same thing or could give me some pointers on what the problem could be and how painful it's going to be for my wallet ?

I really don't know very much about cars so I am apprehensive that they might try there luck and it might just be something simple.

It's a 2010 that's done 46K, I bought it two months ago and am hoping this is just a one off piece of bad luck.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

I can't help you with your query J but would like to say :welcome: to 911uk and to Porsche ownership.

Fingers crossed it won't be anything too serious/expensive.

My mate has a 2004 boxster and had exactly the same problem (all except the wireless volume going off)

Turned out to be the main switch that you use to turn the lights on, she had it changed and problem was cured.

May not be this of course but worth mentioning it to the fix it man. :thumb:

welcome to the forum Jspurs , hope you find the issue quickly and cheaply tobyone,s suggested cause is well worth considering :thumb:

There will certainly be fault codes in instrument cluster , pcm and several other control units i expect .. each of which will point towards the fault so it shouldn,t be too hard to fix.

Without any codes then im limited in what i can say is wrong but an ignition switch or a problem with the power distribution box spring to mind .

Coincedence that there has been a few cases of dashboard discolights? I wonder if the extended cold weather then into some warmer weather is having an influence?

The weather has been a nightmare this year .. Porsche garages are quiet .. ish for 6 monthes then busy for 6 monthes .. this year we are a month late in kicking off and its gone mental .. we are not booking new work untill into June atm .. cant move at work as theres cars everywhere !

Im thinking damp and not so much cold re electrical faults .. already seen a few this year .. and damp is not so good .

Btw .. my garage is £85 per hour .. hmm .. wonder if ill be looking at a certain fault on friday

Hopefully not as i dont like the reviews comment :floor:

Sounds like I need to book it soon, Iain, for a tyre change and health check.
