Advice needed. Fallen for a 997.2.

Hi. It's neurotic old me again.

So, the situation is this. I've fallen for a 997.2 and would very much like to buy it.

I have been offered £16,000 as a trade in price for mine, which is less than it is worth and I don't like to throw away money.

My car is for sale on eBay and Autotradet at £18,750. Strong money but fair I feel.

I am considering dropping the price down to £17,500 with a view to accept £17,000. Do you think this makes me look desperate? Should I just leave it at £18,750 and hope someone comes in at £18,000?

Should I just be happy with the simple £16,000 trade in?

What would you do???

If the 997 is the one for you would you want to lose it for the sake of £1000?

Regardless of what others think you 'might' get for your car privately you say you'd accept £17k.

£16k is less than you hoped it 'might' be worth but ...........

Good Luck :thumb:

Age old dilemma - what is the cost to change? If you bought your desired 997 for cash, would you get a better deal on it? If so, then you are losing both ways by trading your car in. If not then you are losing a grand with zero hassle and getting the car you want now...

:yeah:
If you've found a cracking 997 you best snap it up otherwise you most likely pay more than the £1k in price and brain damage should you let it go.

Age old answer I'm afraid: everything has a price, no matter what the item is expected to sell for, the price is what buyers are willing to pay.

turn up with the cash and meet him half way - must be a deal there surely.
Good luck and see you on the other side soon :thumb:

Turn up with the cash and meet on your terms, otherwise split the the diff and meet in the middle as said above!

got to say if you are asking top money for your car I can only assume it is a top car. if that's the case do you really think a 997.2 is worth double a well sorted 996.
I'd stick.

I was in your position recently.

I owned a 996.2 C4 which I was trying to sell via A/T to get the next 911 that I wanted.

Fact of the matter is - the 996 brand is tainted by IMS and bore scoring woes and so it is incredibly hard to find a buyer, trade or private, willing to pay the premium that you think your car deserves, when the reality is, your car could throw a £10k bill at them a week into ownership.

I'd stop worrying about whether you get £16k or £17k or even £18k on your car but instead focus on:

- am i paying the right price for the new car that I want?
- am I sure that once the novelty of the new car wears off, I won't be trying to do this all again in 12 months time?

Changing cars costs money full stop - that's why the used car industry exists. If your answer to both questions above is yes, then I would take the £16k trade in hit and move forwards.

Good sound advice. :thumb:

Best to get on with it. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice all.

Ive dropped the price of mine to £17,500. If i cant get £17,000 then i will go the hassle free route and just trade it in for £16,000.

What about the unknown Porsche specialist who offered £16.5k? Worth a go?

Hi. Ive been offered that as a trade now....

I really am leaning towards trading it in for ease.

I'll let everyone know how the saga concludes ober the weekend.

There is a lot to be said for a fair trade offer... there are a lot of time-wasting folk around when selling privately.
