Porsche Approved Warranty

I heard on the forum that Porsche offer an approved warranty for any car under 14 years old and 125K.

I've got an '07 997 with 30K on the clock and I'm interested.

Anyone have a view on the warranty and how straight a bat Porsche play on claims?

I'll give an OPC a call once I've got a bit of background from people who have been here before...

cheers

I wouldn't be without mine.

See => Thank heavens for my Warranty

To get one your car has to pass a 111 point check costing c£220.

Anything that isn't standard or is in need of repair will need to be fixed. After that it's c£1100 for 1 year or c£1900 for 2 years.

Renewals require a new 111 point check but cost a bit less than buying for the first time.

Barring wear and tear items if any part fails in that time they will replace it.

Like any Insurance it only seems worthwhile having if you make a claim but the 'peace of mind' is worth an awful lot too.

Cheers for that.

Anyone got experience of how far they go in asking you to 'repair' your car after the 111 point check? I know thats a "depends whats wrong" but how picky are they?

Is there an excess on the policy? It doesnt read as if there is from the threads I've seen so far?

Once the two years are up can you roll it on again for the £1,100 per year plus another 111 point inspection?

Also if say the clutch went on a manual car do they cover any of the labour or do they treat that as a wearable item?

Lastly (for now) my car has a full OPC SH bar one service (which i dont think it actually needed but appears to be a specialist who said "I'll service it for you before you buy it") will they likely have an issue with that?

I've emailed Porsche Bolton for some info but want to be armed with the right info so I can drill a bit deeper with them.

It needs to comply fully for the 111 point check. You normally get away with non-Porsche screen wash.

You can renew, as you suggest, with another 111 point check.

There is no excess. I wouldn't expect any help with a worn clutch.

They are very "picky". None Porsche battery or none N rated tires will fail. You will read on here that the Porsche battery is not as reliable as other brands either. Another favourite is brake discs. Porsche discs corrode quickly if not driven regularly & corrosion can build up on the outer rim of the inside disc face. They will (and in my case did) fail you for that insisting that you had to have the discs replaces before the warranty. And of course you have to have the pads replaces as well. Big Porsche tax to be paid if you want to take out what is a very comprehensive warranty.

I'm running an eight year old Cayenne 3.0 diesel with a Porsche warranty. They have been good as gold settling claims, even some engine out oil leak repair which they said would have come to around £9,000 because the engine came out twice owing to the failure of a new component. Had a nice V8S diesel for a couple of weeks too.

It's these last two posts that make me wonder about the warranty.

I love the idea that they will be spot on when agreeing claims. I'm concerned about how silly they will be when accepting my car.

TBF it's only just been serviced by Porsche 1,000 miles ago and had all new brakes at the time but if they start 'finding' things when the car goes in it's going to cost me thousands potentially to 'put right' something that isn't wrong.

Suppose it's only £220 to find out though and would give me a thorough inspection on the car so i suppose i would gain something if the worst happened?

There is a single non-Porsche service in the history though so maybe that will be a show stopper?

going to bring my service book in tomorrow and email it to them to flush them out on that point. No point if they are going to be that picky...

Mine came with balance of a 2 year warranty.

I had the 111 point check done before purchase and they found two faults that have been settled by warranty that could have cost me over £2k.

Thanks for the heads up on that SGH.

I think this hangs on two things:
1) whether they accept the non OPC service stamp in the book
2) just how silly their "replace this first" list gets.

I like the idea of the warranty for sure.

As your car has mostly OPC history the odd non-OPC service shouldn't count against you especially if it was an extra service anyway.

Any non-Porsche items fitted will need to be changed.

With regards to wear and tear items. They would require you to fix anything that they consider needs replacement. eg. Mine needed a track rod end and an air con rad before getting on to the scheme.

If you take out a 2 year warranty not only does it cost less per year but you also don't need a mid-term 111 point check. Total saving = £300+

At the end of 1 year or 2 years you need another 111 point check but can renew. Renewal is a bit cheaper (about £80) than the cost of buying first time.

Don't bother with it IMO. Mine came with a 2 year warranty as I bought it from an OPC. As expected, absolutely nothing has gone wrong with my car and I'm confident the next 2 years will be the same.

If like me, you like to tweak and modify, forget it. If you get your car through the 111 check thingy and you're not a screw driver kind of guy, then it might be a good idea.

I am not currently in warranty, but I have had them in the past, have had call to use them and have found them to be as good as a car warranty gets. If your car is a long term keeper I wouldn't bother though - just keep the money in the bank and in the fullness of time you would be very unlucky not to come out ahead without a major engine and gearbox detonation. If only keeping for a few years then it can make a lot of sense though.

If you go out of warranty remember that you save not just the warranty costs, but also the 111 point checks, ~£200 or so every time it needs a new battery, several hundred every time you change your brakes, etc... (and that is still with doing all of your to-book basic servicing at an OPC if you like a set of main dealer stamps with your car).

My story. My car had a mixture of opc and indy Paragon stamps. 111 check found over revs in range 4. I had to pay opc to perform borescope and leak down tests. No scoring found , and ld test fine.

Had to remove my pukka bosch battery and replace with porsche moll battery.

About £750 later and im accepted onto the scheme. Bought 2yrs to avoid the nonsense above and another cost of 111 check after 12 months.

During the last 23 months i have slept easy, paid opc £180 to change the oil yearly, supplying my own oil,

But i have made successful claims for ims seal replacement, new air con rads, n/s/f coolant pipes and engine mounts.

I will endeavour to renew the porsche warranty next month. No mods doesnt bother me as my pimping days are long gone now.

Imho , and putting "service history " to one side, the older the car gets, the more likely parts are to fail /deteriorate/leak.

Get the 111 check done and take it from there. Good luck all the best

Sorry , forgot to add, also had door membrane liners done on warranty.
