So I'm now in to my 5th year of ownership and still as happy with the car as the day I bought it. To say I use it daily & nightly, go on holiday in it usually once a year and drive it like my pants are on fire......and the fact it lives outside spending most its life wet through (living in Lancashire).......marches on through the salt and snow every winter........and gets burnt to a crisp on the French Riviera every summer........it's cost me very little.

I've posted a full breakdown (no pun) of all costs below but in a nutshell, here's a few bullet points of interest:

Distance covered 37,800 miles

All running cost includes everything except road tax and fuel. i.e. servicing, repairs, mods, Insurance.

Average yearly running cost (inc. ins.) £1922 with a highest of £2814 and lowest of £888.

Average Fully comp yearly Insurance £275

Average yearly service £264 with a highest of £354 and lowest of £158.

Biggest bill £666 for new clutch, ims bearing checked and outer seal removed, ims cover plate leak fixed and gearbox oil change.

Second biggest bill £515 for diff. rebuild - seals, gaskets, bearings & pinion gears.

Still on same brake pads and discs all round (disc have been skimmed though).

Cost per mile - 20p

Cost per month - £157

Here's to another 4 years of ownership :drink:

Thanks for sharing. Made me think about starting a spreadsheet....

Alex , what a great breakdown of real time costs to run a 911 we all say they are not as expensive to run as you might imagine , but to see the written proof is great :worship: I am clearly not as methodical as you as I have some reciepts in a shoe box others are in the bin and certainly no spread sheet, and most of my money is spent on mods not actually on fixing issues.

bloody nice job mate :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Now where's my AiB girls and bacon butty spread sheet gone :floor:

And bacon butties :food:

I needed mine next day so ordered from ecp. Handily they were having one of the rest 'rare'sales and I got 70 quid off. Iirc it was 140. I changed it the weekend before the beast from the east as I wanted to do it when weather was good.

I actually got mine same day from ECP. Went down the local branch and collected it, but got my mechanic to call them and get the price down with his trader discount.

Great post Alex
As I said in my post the other day, no more expensive to run than the A6. In fact I'm sure the A6 cost me more than the 911 last year.

Great post Alex. Really good read and info.

Amazing how cheap the average ownership becomes even with plenty of good maintenance, although I think it may double if you hadn't done alot of the work yourself saving labour costs.

Nice to read of a well used and maintained car.

My mechanic is only £36 per hour including VAT which helps. I usually source my own parts, then have him fit them. That way you have a VAT receipt for both labour and where you sourced the parts from. I bet have the 911s on the road don't have what they think are genuine parts. Even OPC vans are regularly seen down ECP picking bits up.

He's charging half of what my local indie's charge, and the cheapest rate I've been able to find for any work is 100 mils away for £50 + VAT. Re-factor that spreadsheet at the "normal" £70 per hour rates and I think you'll find its no longer a cost effective car for most!

/Goes away to sell kidney to fund more work

There's plenty of mechanics that are £30/hr who are good. You've just got to find them.

Also, there's very minimal % of cost in that spreadsheet that's my mechanics. A chunk of it is other places, eg: retro fit cruise was a Porsche specialist, respray work at bodyshops, etc.

Also, there's a lot of jobs in there even a simpleton like me can do......and did.
