Wheel spacer advice

Hi all

Am fitting springs that will lower my 997.2 NB C2 by 20mm. I have ordered 15mm spacers for the rear but wondered about the front (or any strong opinions on the rear!), I have read 7mm/9mm but not 15mm.

So opinions please - it would be great if these were based on personal experience rather than thoughts.....my main worry is that 15mm spacers on the front seems excessive.

Thanks in advance of any comments, negative or positive!

looking to do the same, mind me asking which 15mm ones you bought?, got a link?. I'm going with 7mm front with mine.

cheers

If you're running OEM Porsche Rims then they're probably 8.0j with an offset of ET57.
Now look at a GT3 or Turbo and they run 8.5J with an offset of ET53 & ET55 respectively. This indicates that you have approx. 6mm either side of the width to play with plus 2-4mm (GT3/Turbo offsets).
Concluding that anything upto 10mm Spacers will be fine. Anything more and you may have to start tickling the arches. ;)

Agreed :thumb: the usually accepted spacer for the front is 5mm to 7mm and as you have done 15mm rears ,I suggest you look at the Porscheshop 6mm as they do it with a hub spiggot on sizes down to 3mm, whereas most are just a shim and your very close on the hub with just a 6mm or7mm shim and may get some wobble .
they used to do a 7mm with a spigot but I cant find it so they may have stopped but worth asking them

hope that helps :thumb:

just to throw a little spice into the mix...

What Camber are you running?

I am about -2 up front with 15mm spacers all around. The car would easily go 20mm whilst having the tyres completely inside the arches.

Would also depend on which wheels you have to. This is with the Lobsters on stock tyre sizes.

Hi guys

Thanks for the swift responses!

Okay - I am running turbo II wheels, see pic below - I have never understood offsets etc so please excuse the frankly schoolboy ignorance. So do I still need 15mm spacers on the rear?

I'm getting mine from techart (well Tech9) as part of my order for springs.

Looking at the current stance I think 20mm techart springs with 15mm rear and 6mm or 7mm fronts would be perfect ,the springs will pull the tops in slightly so you should achieve that low wide aggressive look :thumb: :thumb:

Just lowered mine 20mm front and back with 15mm spacers at the back and 7mm at the front, I think it works pretty well but you can check the pics here and see if you think you need to go wider!

Hi all

Thanks for the feedback - Phil, Mikee; thank you for your comments, I think I'll go 15mm Rear, 7mm front. Your cars look great.

BTW Phil; had my H&S X pipes fitted and air filters in, car sounds perfect....great advice. With the lowering and spacers it should be job done. Until.....

Great glad you got it sounding how you wanted it :thumb: yes now stance should be sorted as well :thumb: :thumb: got a curry on the 2nd March and a Breakfast run to Alton on Sunday the 4th if your free mate :thumb:

Hi all

Sorry if this is a bit of a hijack but I am following with interest here but have a specific question.

7mm front seems to be the norm if your looking to widen the stance

but can you get away with 7mm on the rear ... as they make kits like this?

I have black wheels on PCCB hubs that are of a machined finish so would want to blend the spacer into the wheel colour.

Is this a good kit?

You can get ones from eibach in Black in multiple sizes if you are only going 7mm to get the colour match.... cartech doing them at a decent deal atm.....

Got the 4th in the diary and my name on the list (I think.....will check). Not sure about the 2nd but will have a look.

Look forward to seeing a few local cars.....back in the day when I had my 993 there was only a couple of us locally on here.

Hi , I personally am not a lover of 7mm shims as they are pushing the wheel to the limit on the hub , many use them get away with it but there is the risk of getting wheel wobble. I understand you want a black spacer to keep the look right

TPI do a nice quality black hubcentric spacer in 15mm

http://www.taperpro.co.uk/2012/spacers.htm

and in your case I would suggest you consider the black TPI 5mm shim for the
front or you could go for a black TPI 7mm shim and fingers crossed you get away with it fitting fine. I think you would be happier with the look of 15mm rear and 5mm front than 7mm all round .

also the D911kit is £220 with vat and less the forum 5% discount.
the TPI price for 2x15mm and 2x.5mm is £131 plus vat leaving you plenty for the bolts and locking nuts

if you dont want to go optimum stance as some dont as they want to keep the tyres in a bit to reduce gravel rash then 5mm fronts are perfect and you could look at 12mm rears all are avail in black in 130x5 from TPI .

hope those suggestions help. :thumb:
