Idea on pricing when selling my 997 in the summer

Hi everyone,

I have just signed up here looking for some advice, due to a change of circumstances it looks like my 997 will be going for sale this summer :(

Having purchased the car just over a year ago I have cherished it and covered about 2300 miles (300 driving back from buying it!), its a second car and has been garaged since October. It will be back on the road March with a fresh service and MOT. Rather than waffling on it maybe easier to list the main points?

- 2005 (54/lower tax)
- 3.8 Carrera S
- 63,000
- Manual
- 4/5 previous owners (need to check)
- Guards red - Immaculate, I had it detailed last year and will again before sale
- 19" multi spoke wheels
- 4 near new tyres
- FSH - Will come with a fresh service from Porsche specialist
- ** Engine rebuild 3000 miles ago by Portia craft, new cranks and cylinders re-lined, plus a few other odd jobs while engine was out**
- Upgraded oil fed IMS done while engine was rebuilt
- Plenty of extras like Sat-Nav, Sport seats, Chrono plus pack, Bose, Alcantra headlining, head light washers, phone connectivity.

In the last year the coil pack has been changed, new suspension bump stops & new AC condenser plus a couple more jobs (wear and tear).

Big folder going back years with a details history, receipts, old MOT, old sales receipts and of course a full engine rebuild receipt. It took me months to find one this clean and with all the extras and work carried out, I actually done a 600 mile round trip for it.

I have had a look online and there is some 'basic' similar mileage 997's for around 23k and others similar to mine with the rebuild and extras for about 30k which I think is too high? (maybe wrong).

Realistically what do you all think its worth based on the above?
I am planning on advertising it around June time to hopefully get a buyer within a few weeks/over summer.

Gutted to be selling it but need a bigger car so considering a Panamera or X5 M50d.

Thanks

Also new clutch fitted about 10,000 miles ago.

The car is also ran on Nanodrive oil, no expense spared on any of the work or servicing.

I think given the work done in the rebuild and IMS sorted you should be expecting £26/28k if it was a hartech rebuild maybe a little more as they are the known market leader in rebuilds.although Portiacraft also have a decent reputation. So on a good day in the Spring you may well achieve 28k its a nice spec and good colour car :thumb:

Thanks, thats actually a little more than I thought. Once back on the road I will get some pics and update the advert.

There is a few things I have missed out which I think will help with the sale anyway.

Do you think its worth advertising for around £28500 and taking an offer?
Maybe a member on here has a nice Panamera and would like to do a deal nearer the time

Sounds like a nice car with all of the known problems sorted out! I know Potiacraft and they have a good reputation, not sure who does their engine rebuilds, or at least fits the liners anyway, are they steel liners or aluminium?

If you can get between £26k and £28k for it then I think that would be a fair price! Let us know how much it goes for :thumb:

I think thats the ideal price to advertise it at and I would also add a free add on this forum advertising the car, and to be honest unless your planning on using the car between now and the spring stick the add on now and if you get an acceptable offer let it go earlier rather than waiting. :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks again, I might stick it up around May time so it gives me some time to sell it. Its going in for an MOT, service and full detail first week out of storage so once thats done I would like to have a couple of months use out of it at least.

I think the liners were alu from memory, to quote from the receipt ' Remove, strip and rebuild engine with new liners and pistons on cylinders 4/5/6 plus piston rings on all 6 and cylinder timing chain set'. The car has actually been bought and sold by Portiacraft twice (I have the old receipts over the years) so they know it well and from what I hear they wont take any old tatty Porsche back in PX.

The oil fed IMS was also fitted with the above for £1100 and the brake and gearbox fluid done.

The following month the car went in to Porsche London and had the coolant hoses replaced due to a minor leak.

The car is booked in for an oil & filter change on the 15th Feb, bit earlier than planned but gives me time to get out in the car and get it detailed etc.

I have a member on here interested in it already but just a heads up in case any one is looking for a 997 in the coming months.

I will also post pics in the coming weeks and stick a for sale advert up just after.

how important is mileage when it comes to asking price? not wanting to hijack your thread, I have a 997 similar age, hartech engine, but around 95k miles... how important is mileage :)

Sadly, very. 95k is close to the dreaded psychological 100k barrier. Hartech engine is a definite + but your target audience will be smaller.

Bit of a heads up for anyone potentially interested. The car has just had its oil & filter done and booked in for an MOT tomorrow.

I will be putting an advert on here this weekend, the price will be £28k.

I have a good/reasonable offer from 911Virgin on the table so wont be taking any silly offers.

I would say your pricing theory is solid at £28-30k lower end is top private and top is the beginning of the trader pricing

while it might be a slower sale and will take the time to find the right buyer that understands the price

Ive just gone through the process of getting mine Insurance valued and part of that process was to review the market for similar cars taking into consideration spec (options) maintenance, millage and age to establish the true cost to replace.

its seems GOOD cars with GOOD history are hard to find and command ££££ regardless of what Autotrader is saying. skip past page 1 on autotrader and they shoot up quickly.

new clutch, flywheel and coolant hoses are very common along with the major service and ALL fluid including transmission are now coming into scope for the 12yr old 60k mile car... ive just done the lot and it set me back a little over £4k

best of luck with sale, I have a similar car 1yr newer same spec plus PCCB's and PSE and its been valued for Insurance at low 30's

good luck with the sale

Thanks for the info. I might list it at £28,999 then and see how it goes.
I have just had the car MOT'd today, passed with no advisories.

The advert should be up tomorrow or Sat so I will see how things go over the next week or two.

Get some piccies up......always helps
