Hi all.

Looks like it's clutch time for my 996.
It's done 68k miles and the pedal is very heavy.
There is also a bit of judder on pick up etc.

I've had quotes from the specialists around here (Gt1, 9e, Porsche Torque) and they are all quite similar.

My question is would I be just as well served by going to a mr clutch? Has anyone else done this? What sort of price would I be looking at from that type of place? I've asked for a quote anyway...

Any input is always appreciated.

Thanks

Antony.

Hi Antony

Mr Clutch wouldn't be top of my list. My reservation is unsubstantiated but that's it.

Have just had mine done by a friend. There is a recent post floating around with some good discussion. I had the flywheel replaced at the same time and as the fly is off, had the RMS replaced and the IMS bearing checked out.

Think £300 - £350 labour plus parts. My parts were £550. If you stick to simply swapping the clutch out, I think they are £250 but cant comment on the labour for just this.

All the best!

Al

Any local mechanic should be able to do the job. Get the flywheel checked and if ok stick back in, have the outer seal removed from the ims bearing, leave the rms alone if its fine, have a powerflex gearbox mount insert fitted to take up slack in the mount. Should be looking at around £600 all in if there's no problems.

Good advice. Thanks.

The price from mr clutch is more than the Porsche specialists....

What sort of prices are you getting?

Around £900 for the clutch from the specialists I mentioned.
Mr clutch is around £1350 (incl flywheel)
Design 911 are £550 for the clutch by its self. Just under £1200 for the clutch, flywheel and rms fully fitted.

Just waiting to hear back from a couple of Indy's.

Design 911 are winning at the moment. I would love to find a really decent local Indy I can build a relationship with...

As Alex says.

I'd add-

Your flywheel could be worn too at those miles but a mechanic will advise.
A judder or clunk when first moving off is a sign.

Anyway, cheaper clutch kit here.

Maybe have a look on their site for a sale or discount code too.

Also while your box is out check your brake pipes that run over the box. Now is the time to renew them.

Good luck. :thumb:

Ouch.

I just paid ~£450 for a sachs cluctch and luk flywheel with bolts and stuff from cp4l.

Any indy / design911 will pay less with a trade account.

How long did they say it will take?

I heard gearbox on/off is 3hour book time.

£1200 sounds a lot unless they are doing other stuff.

Are you sure? The clutch is £355 and flywheel is £410 on CP4L.

I think d911 is a fair price. Clutch and fitting is £522+vat. £1,200 is the fitted price for clutch flywheel and RMS seal.

To chip-in with my past experience....i had flywheel and clutch-kit fitted by my local garage and it was around £1000 all-in.
