Opinions 997.1T to a 991.1 4S

Ok folks, so this is the only place i would ask for opinions on the following change which I'm mulling over.....

There is fantastically specced White 991.1 4S with Aerokit Cup for sale at OPC Newcastle.
A car friend of mine saw it a couple of months ago and informed me that it really is pretty special. >>>>>

I currently have a 2008 unmarked Manual Blk/Blk 997.1T with 20k miles on the clock and full OPC service history. No nasty Overrevs etc. Arguably one of the best of the best!! Really in no rush to sell but would do so for the right car/deal.

I haven't contacted the OPC yet and discussed anything but would be interested to know....

Your thoughts going forward residual wise? (I don't want to be committing financial suicide)

Would i be sorely disappointed with the downgrade in power/torque and the way which it is delivered?

Other comments?

Like to think that i could make the swap for plus £10k ish

Thoughts plz ??

If its a long term keeper and you can suck up the depreciation until they start to be seen as the last true 911 and prices climb then it may be a good move to go with the 991.1 4S

If you looking for huge fun apreciating in value car now ,that you can add a few miles to and still see a profit ,then hang on to the 997.1 turbo.

I think both cars will be seen as desirable in the future to different enthusiasts but which will have the higher future value :dont know: Which would be the most fun to drive now and for the next 3/5 years ,well as much as I personally like NA cars It has to be the TURBO :thumb: :thumb:

That C4s looks very nice and if you fancy a change why not, financially your turbo with that miles is always going to be a sound investment although I think your being a bit optimistic with your 10k ish to change for the 4s

The change you're thinking of making is exactly the change that I had hoped I'd have made by now. My original plan was to keep my 997.1T for 2 years before going for a very early 991C4S. I had hoped that my Turbo wouldn't fall in value and that the 991 would have depreciated significantly to make the 'cost to change' acceptable.

The first part went well in that after 2 years if I'd gone the SoR route I'd have got £6k more for my car than I paid for it. Unfortunately values of 991s have held up so well that only a C2 would have been within my self-imposed budget.

I was very nearly tempted by a 2012 Aqua Blue C4S that I saw advertised in the summer at Bristol OPC. The asking price was a very tempting £63k. The downside (and show-stopper for me) was the 57k miles it had done. I still have days when I wonder 'what if' but by and large I'm happy that I chose to 'stick' and have enjoyed revelling in the extra bhp for a bit longer.

I'm sure that I would miss the Turbo-oomph but after 5 years (I had a 996T for 2 years previously) the number of times that I actually 'floor it and hang on tight' has diminished. I can't say that the novelty has worn off but the opportunities just don't arise as often.

A lot depends upon how often you use your car and what type of driving you do. If it's a very occasional driver and you do find yourself 'unleashing the beast' most times you get in her I feel that you would probably miss the experience and come to regret the change. If, like me, you drive the car quite regularly and just enjoy the fact that 400 bhp is there every time you actually need it you'll probably appreciate the niceties that a newer generation car would bring.

Your existing car will almost certainly continue to appreciate in value even if you increase the average annual mileage and the C4S will continue to depreciate, albeit slowly, so it might pay to wait a while.

I certainly wouldn't try to do any deal with an OPC. Yours will be worth far more by selling it (a) privately, (b) through SoR or (c) by selling it to a specialist.

Good Luck with your pondering.

"John aus" was looking at this also, http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=124638

Weejimmy moved from a 991.1 to a 991.2 so might be interesting to hear his thoughts going the other way i.e. n/a to turbo'd car in a 991 range?

Depending on your motivation for changing, the exhaust note and overrun theatrics on a 4s with PSE in sport(+) make it worthwhile alone. But the acceleration/speed is noticeably slower (unsurprisingly). I was talking with Mr Pub about my 4s vs the 997TS, he made a great point about trying someones 997T with an aftermarket exhaust or hack before making the change :?:

OPC trade in..try not to spit your coffee out when they suggest a value for your car. Yours is really desirable and they will probably do thier usual thing and offer substantially lower than its worth. Criminal really.

Special [appreciating] car V less special [depreciating] car.

I have not driven a 991 and have no desire to really. The 997 is a future classic for sure and in Turbo guise it will be revered.

Think hard before pulling the trigger as in five years time it may cost you a whole heap of money to buy back the Turbo that you wish you had never let go.

Edited to say that a nice sports exhaust (my Kline arrives between Xmas and the New Year) may give you the added dimension that you may be looking for.

At 20K miles it sounds like you have a car you enjoy on weekends, are you sure a Carrera would be special enough?
I would not sell my own 997 turbo for a 991 unless it was the Turbo or GT variant.

Good luck :)

Is this candid camera ? its certainly not April ?

You are willing to let go a 20k mile Mezger manual Turbo in Black for a cooking 911

Thanks for your input guys, always a good truthful response on here.
So the majority view seems to be that i may well have regrets on multiple levels if i push for a deal on this newer 4S.

Funnily enough, the other week i had a drive round to the dealer whom i bought my Turbo from. I half expected him to try & talk me into buying another car from the showroom but he walked outside, circled around my car (giving it a good eyeballing) and whispered into my ear "Don't sell it"....

He knows what he's talking about so maybe i should take notice of him and the enthusiasts on here and keep hold of my golden ticket after all.

Absolutely keep your 997T. All the arguments have been made in this thread already. Any reason you need £10k in your pocket?

I'd have at least 10k to add if wanted to make a deal happen on that 4s mate.

I have the less desirable tip but it is the 1.5 I love the tip by the way!

I had the chance to use my mates low mileage 991.1 4S PDK the other day. It's definitely a great car but no way does it feel as special as my turbo! The pse does sound awesome though in sport mode and the pdk is a dream!

I think you have your answer!

My mates not lost a penny in the year he owned it!

You would enjoy the drive 991 C4S more if your car is stock. Trade in from OPC may scare you too and vary a great deal especially for manual. I would recommend you keep and mod as this is the main usp of these cars imo.

This, 1000%.

Not a lot more to be said really...what your considering is madness
