Urgent help !! 996 deadlocked

My 1999 996 C4 triptronic is not opening ...

Drove her Saturday morning all fine ... parked on the drive locked . Went to start her this morning 3 days later .. dead .. it was freezing cold last few days etc ..

Tried the key manually .. has worked before . Nothing ! Turns both ways but it isn't unlocking the door ..

I've opened the rear engine lid via the emergency cable .. it has power .. alarm went off etc ... key fobs have red lights working .. red light on The dash flashes away all fine .

Had a breakdown man out for it ... he got a rod in the window .. ebgaged the door handle from the inside .. still wouldn't open !

I'm at a total loss ... I have GT3 wheels on and spliter.. so getting access to the bonnet emergency cable will be very difficult.. if I knew even where it is ?!

Called my local OPC zentrum .. gave me some good advice .. but said I will need to get it towed to them .. smashing a window and restarting the keys is not a good option...

The car is parked at the bottom of my folks drive and is not in a good position to be towed ..

Any help would be great appreciated!!!!

Could be a frozen microswitch or something in the door. I'd maybe have a go at warning both doors up with a hairdryer starting with the driver's door.

Hi

Just tried It now with the hairdryer .. got the lock and handle nice and warm .. still the same .... dead !

The more I read .. the bonnet open is the best way but I don't know how on earth with it parked .. 18jnch alloys .. low .. wheel nut Locked how I can get to the cable ?!

This story will be no help I am afraid except this happened to my 997 and it was the passenger door lock .The interesting bit is I called out my breakdown company with the exact same fault .
He couldn't get in the car but called out a specialist in car lock outs .He turned up in a van with a captains chair in the back and a bank of equipment and lap tops .
He sent me in to make a cup of tea and by the time I was back to the car he was sat in it with the engine running .
He reckoned there isn't a car made that he couldn't get in and start ,he only sent me in for the tea so that I couldn't watch him at work.

I've rang 3 local auto locksmiths .. they all say can't help .. smash a window and start it up to reset the fob .. but like I said it's only been 3 days since I last drove her .. the key shouldn't have gone off after 3 days ? Usually longer than that ...

I'm at a loss here .

Sounds like he's the guy in the know ... I bet he's nowhere near Mansfield?!
He's not a million miles away ,I live in Nottingham .Sorry I do not have he contact details might be worth a local search .

I know you say you have little chance of finding but I think your best and cheapest solution is to access frunk via. emergency cable, disconnect battery, re-charge or replace if required (may be fine) and re-connect some-time later. With any luck your key fob buttons will be re-activated and you can access cabin to start engine etc.

You can get locking wheel nut removal tool if wheel has to come off as you say. Your friendly local mechanic or work shop may lend (or lend services!).

Failing that pick a dry day & :gunfire: the windscreen, access cabin/fuse box to unlock/start etc. and blame it on a seagull :)

You can access the cable just by undoing the front outer part of your wheel liner and pulling out the way.

Jack car up for access if wheels are too big/suspension low

The emergency front opening wire is usually under the drivers side headlight and will need to be fished out with a piece of wire, it sounds like you have power so it's just your key that needs re-programming and quite possibly someone has changed something in the locking system where your key doesn't work in the lock any longer. Do you have a spare key to try in the lock?

Ian ... I've googled all the local area.. called 3 different firms .. no one said they can help ...

The call out guy .. tried to ge the liner off .. he said he could not do it and gave up .. said he couldn't get the bolts / plugs off ?! He didn't even know which side to look .. i said it was the passenger side ? I thought I was right.. this correct ?

Yeah .. both keys ... tried them both .. zero use in the lock .. they have worked in the past .. so no idea !

I've read it's in the wheel arch ? The bonnet cable ..

You say it's in the drivers front light ? How can I get to it without damaging the light from the outside ? No bonnet open etc ..

Thanks for all the replies gents .. please keep them coming ..

Driver's side, see this FAQ

Last year I stupidly locked my key in the front boot at a track day. I had to call the AA.

The AA chap managed to pick the lock and get the door open. He said he used the VW lock-picking kit as Porsche use the same parts. Anyway probably no use to you at all, but just FYI.

After obtaining the locking wheel nut which was kept in the car, the AA chap jacked the car up, removed the wheel and liner, and managed to find the emergency cable as shown in the FAQ above.

Good luck.

The door locks are definitely VW as when mine went indy showed me the old part which as stated was the passenger door lock which produced the same symptoms as yours .Sorry can't be much more help, good luck.
