Laying up for winter - tyre flat spotting

Hello guys
Won't be using them 6T much over the next 4-8 weeks.
I've read somewhere that it's worth putting a little extra PSI in the tyres to avoid flat spotting whilst standing for a while.
Any advice on how much to over inflate by? :?:

for 4-8 weeks I wouldn't bother. Some of my cars sit for months and never had a problem.

Its previously sat on a forec ourt for longer, don't bother.

Cheers MC, it's already sat for the last 8 weeks or so too.

Just thought the tyre looked flat at bottom

Maybe just imagining :?:

I read that 50psi, but having checked the tyres the maximum recommended are 44 front and 51 rear, so that's what I did.

I still move mine in and out of the garage every two weeks though.

The recommendation will be max pressures for driving, you could put 50 PSI in the fronts for the winter but lower it again before you drive.

Hi OP,

Google tyre savers and choose the ones suitable for your tyre size. Cheap and no need to mess about with tyre pressures.

Classic car owners use these when laying up their cars for the winter which can cause a real risk of damage to tyres of long term storage and flat spotting in cold temperatures.

Great, thanks - that's an idea

Any recommendations on where I'd find some wide enough as most I'm finding are circa 20cm wide but say they can be clipped together to make wider so may need a couple of sets ..

Tyre cushions, £14.99 on ebay or amazon etc, I've never experienced flat spots on any car I've laid up but for the cost it's peace of mind.

I think that is the point, you can pump them up extra hard, put them on cushions, and you won't have any problems. That doesn't in any way mean that you needed them.

I just say a little chant, hop backwards around the car two times, and disconnect the battery. I have never had problems either.

For anybody interested I have a good supply or special gravel to keep tigers out of your garden. 10 years, no tigers. PM me for details.

I would be interested to hear of anybody who HAS had flatspots, that would be more telling.

Any link ?
Searching and finding actual cushions :D

Funnily enough, I'd trawled Google for advice on this only yesterday for my 997 GT3.

I decided to bung in 40psi front (normal pressure 29) and 50 rear (normal is 33). I figure, as and when required, dropping the pressures back to standard will take just a minute or two.

The handbrake is off and the car is in neutral so I can move the car back and for too I guess.
