Five Porsche 911 modifications to avoid

What a load of Tosh, clearly just the opinion of one sandal with socks wearer  :thumb:

B@ll@cks!

I have an alcantara-trimmed wheel in a leather car - does that mean that the car is now worthless?

Mike

PS - still have the original in the garage just in case...

He was correct on one of them:

We all like a widebody Porsche 911 now and again. However, there are also some truly terrible third-party bodykits available (especially popular on Eighties flatnoses). Don't believe us, just Google 'Rinspeed 969' or 'Gemballa 930 Mirage'.

true but would any of us trust a body kit from a company that sounds like the title of a porn movie anyway :floor: :floor: :floor:

1. Black wheels
2. Tinted windows - dark black rears on 911
3. Sticking HID lights in standard headlamps
4. White Cayennes with daft number plates like FOXII
5.GT3 badges on normal 996

Total911 = Total Snob. Always has done.

They moved the game on quality wise (as in paper and photography) but they always had a snooty air about them.
I only buy any mags now if they have a specific piece related to what I'm into but I never buy T911. 911 and Porsche World I generally find most relevant to me.

As for the mods, I don't need a mag to tell me what I can or can't do.

PS. Tim I agree with all of those.

My 996 came with LED rear light upgrades, LED healights and tinted rear windows....

The rear lights and tints look good with dark wheels on a silver car, the LEDs (bulb upgrade in standard light fittings) transform the poor standard lights.

However the tints will go, they look ok and partially hide anything left in the rear bu the killer issue is that the heated rear screen doesn't really work with the insulation.

There will always be purists there will always be modders, there's no right or wrong IMO Just another persons view . The big no no is when they try and justify their opinion as the only one and the right and proper one by shoving it down your throat in a non humorous and unpleasant way. :thumb:
yes some bits might appear to some to be OTT and a bit garish but to another person its just what they wanted to express their personality through their car.

We can all be just dam rude if we chose to be  and if that mag wants to alienate its readers by giving an opinion like that article well more fool them.

did I mention my car may be slightly modded inc tints, led , dark alloys, and a less than subtle rear wing plus a very offensive exhaust .but its my car   and I dont wear grey suits :D :)

Have to stop you there on no1!!!

Each to their own.
Btw, I think that's just 'borrowed' T911 images, rather than their opinions.

Fitting wheels that are bigger than was an original option on the car would be right up there on my list. They often look silly and unless you replace much of the suspension the ride and handling generally suffers profoundly. And anything chrome should be restricted to pre-impact bumpers too.

[The above opinion is backed up by the time I saw a lowered 964 on 19" chrome rims in Denver... it was crashing over the less than smooth road and dragging part of its exhaust on the ground behind it at the time, but even when stationary : on purely aesthetic grounds it was fairly nasty. That said, Nick has 19" wheels for his 996 which work well; but in context it doesn't have any of the original suspension components on the car]

The feature says

" In fact, the Total 911 team believe that some tweaks to your Porsche 911 should be avoided at all costs. Here they are: "

What a plonker writing that article, should have read:
1, cutting the roof off a coupe to make a convertible
2, drilling the exhaust to make it sound like a sports exhaust
3, refitting all four wheels with wheel savers (50mph max) to save weight
4, bumper stickers such as 'if it's rockin, don't come knockin'
5, fitting bull bars with 4x Hilux high power spot lamps

Anymore useful suggestions we could give the author...
