Finally fitted some correct wheels to my car & thought I'd share with you all.

Nothing like a new set of boots to make you love the car again!

I'm liking the idea of originality so next up will be window tint removal.[/list]

I agree about the tints, mine will have to go too, if only because the heated rear window doesn't work well with the plastic film.

I have the same wheels but in dark grey and I really like them against the silver car.

Yea I feel that tints only work when they are factory tinted glass. Aftermarket film always looks 'aftermarket" in my opinion.

Unless it is on a Boy racers nova it just needs to go!

Looks good though it also looked good on the C4s/Turbo wheels. +1 on the tints, factory or not at all!

Cheers endex, at first I liked the 4s wheels as it gave the car a wide aggressive look. Despite what others thought they do fit ok on a carerra but needed a 285 rear tyre which was slightly stretched which I didn't like.

Mine's a facelift car so it has 285s on the rear, to be honest, I'm very happy with the stance although I am considering 275s so that I can go to the new Michelin PS4s.

Yea 285s are fine, it's what I have now on the new 10" wheels but they look slightly stretched on the 11" 4s/ Turbo wheels which should have 295s

Looking good Gixxer. :thumb:

But will you be reverting back to black calipers in your quest for originality? :D
I wouldn't personally as red ones look so good but it's all just personal preference . I'm doing mine red soon.

I've got 265s on my 10 inch rear twists as per original 996.1 spec but I've got 285s for my 10 inch rear GT3 wheels as per 996.1 GT3 or 996.2 Carrera.

265s look stretched whereas the 285s look nice and square.

Thanks guys.

Yea going to stick with red callipers as I've not long done them and don't really want to go through that again.

I do like them in red as it is very porsche (although not original to this car). I like them also, although they do show up the dirt a lot more!

I'm not obsessive about the originality as many aftermarket parts are better than my 20year old Porsche items, just feel that the car looks better as it was intended rather than having an identity crisis with the 4s wheels.

Although I am not looking to sell and didn't purchase it as an investment, I think it's value would be better kept if it is aesthetically original(ish).

Marky911- are you going down the painted or powder coated route? I painted mine (2k paint) as I also have access to a shot blaster. Big red or similar could save you a lot of time if you got them to do it for you.

Hi G,

I'm going to them myself. I've done them before years ago on my 964T, although I kept those black.

I've seen mixed results from Bigg Red. My mate Craig on here has his away at the moment at Porsche Calipers or something, off here. £500 a set though.

Not knocking them and they look superb but I'll do mine for under £200 including all new seals and titanium nipples. I don't mind spending a weekend pottering about in the garage with my music on. Especially if it saves me £300. :thumb:

We have a shot blaster at work and even a powder coating department but blasting is quite harsh. I'll just prep, prime, paint, decal then lacquer mine.

Yea similar to me except I did blast them as mentioned. I used stainless nipples and braided hoses in the end. It did take me a couple of attempts to get the correct seals though (not a major issue as design911 are only down the road to me). For reference I used ford race red as my colour of choice and it looks right to my eye.

Thanks for the heads up on br- not used them myself but a guy at work has several times and always bangs on about them- think they are about £500 also from memory. Can't remember exactly but think mine came in under £100 and that was mostly seals and nipples.

Under £100 is good going. I'd originally hoped for that but the titanium nipples (I know you used stainless) are £30 for 4 callipers here -

...and the seal kit here is £30 just for the front and this is for boxster. I'm hoping for a similar price for 996 plus then there are the rears too, so probs £60. It's from Bigg Red. I'll buy parts from them but not let them do it.

Thanks for the heads up on colour. One detailer I know uses Ford Colorado red for touch ups to Porsche callipers so there must be a few Ford shades similar.
I'll get stuck in in a few weeks probably.

Here it is, the side decals cover a deep scratch and the tints will probably go this weekend! The photos's not too well lit to show off the wheels though.

Sounds about right mark as I reused most of my dust seals (nothing wrong with them) but replaced all the main seals.

Colorado red takes me back to my escort days (no not as a career!!). Race red is a newer colour and quite bright (when clean).

Looks good maldren, have you lowered the car?
