Thinking of Selling....SoR / Outright ?

Afternoon Gents,

So unfortunately I've decided to potentially part with not only the 996 Turbo, but also the Escort S2 RS Turbo :( (although this thread is about the Porsche as I will be looking to do a private sale on the Escort)...

Really didn't think I would be doing this (bought the car to keep forever and then hand down to whoever), but an opportunity has arrived at my door to invest in a business venture and one of the easiest ways for me to finance the venture is to sell a few toys!

My question is though, who are known to be the better (paying) and more trustworthy/ straightforward dealers to deal with for an outright purchase, or even SoR?

To give you an idea of the car so you can direct me towards the right sort of dealers....

The car is a completely stock Arctic Silver 911 Turbo, 6 speed Manual, Black Ruffled Leather, Sat Nav, Electric windows/sunroof (usual high spec) and in immaculate condition inside and out. 84k on the Clock, but looks like 50k!...and Full Main Dealer/Specialist History (in fact was serviced this summer too so is good to go). Had a few little niggles when I bought it a few years ago, but literally everything has been sorted with invoices to back it up....Genuine/loved car basically....so who to use for something like this? (I'm based in the Midlands)

One final point, (don't intend to start a valuation thread, especially as I haven't uploaded any pictures!) but after looking at the market...I reckon pitching it around the £39/40k mark seems about right for a dealer???

Thoughts?/Opinions?....

The only way is to pick up a phone and talk to a few specialists to canvass views and opinions. There are quite a few 996 Turbo cars for sale on PHs with a span in prices. Without looking at your car, a specialist will give you a view on what its worth but subject to an inspection for the most accurate price.

Have you asked the specialist that has sorted out the assorted bits and bobs you posted on here during your ownership?

There is PCT in Coventry you can approach.

SOR v Private I cannot guide you. Knowing the nature of Turbo cars I'd prefer to buy from a dealer with a warranty. Any private punter if he knows anything about 996 Turbo cars will insist on a PPI and you will have to put things right that it identifies or cut the price accordingly.

Immediate areas for knockdown might be front respray for stone chips, wheel refurb for any visible damage, discs for visible lipped discs, tyres if around 3-4mm and so on. If manual, at 84k I'd be asking about when the clutch was done.

I think the autumn period would also have slowed the market so if your need to get cash for the venture is pressing, that may also reduce the final figure you let it go for.

You will find that dealers will over you £X for a straight sale or a fee for SOR - SOR will return more IF they can shift the car at the advertised price.

Your car is fairly standard, so you should get a close range of prices from the dealers you contact - only thing that might put off some of them is the mileage.

I'd try 911 Virgin as a starting point - usually a good guide to the true value.

One thought though - have you thought about trying the private route? At least advertise it on this forum as a starter?

I sold a previous car via SOR, never again!!
PM me if you want more details but to summarise, I left the car with the dealer, didn't shift for a few months and developed some random faults due to battery/lack of use. Almost got charged a very large bill but posted a long thread on a well known internet forum and got my money...

Can't find the mansori thread, but Thanks for comments so far Gents,

Shaoxter, agreed ideal route is outright purchase, or if I use SoR and the car hasn't had interest in a month, I'd be looking to bring it home and continue to use it. Would ideally want the car local to me if on SoR too.

Thanks Chesire some good points, especially (I suppose I was trying to circumvent this) picking up the phone and ringing around to get an idea.

Luckily, the maintenance on the car is excellent, clutch 15k miles ago (still strong) alloys refurbished to PERFECTION in summer, no lipping on discs, front grilles installed and clean out of front rads, rear tyres low, but would be willing/looking to put new on in the next few weeks regardless of option taken.

SoR or chopping in to dealer for outright is a new process for me, so I suppose I'll just throw myself into it and can properly evaluate the pros and cons of the options once I;ve been through the experience!

Phoning around will get you a quick estimates of likely prices for an outright cash disposal from specialists - subject to an inspection. You may be lucky that at inspection they may up their offer a grand or two or unlucky in they downgrade their offer if the car needs more work than described by you.

Mileage wont help the price - a specialist might argue and bat you down on price that a potential buyer will see 100k on the horizon and walk away.

Private sale - perhaps reading on here, you might get a lot of time-wasters and tyre-kickers as well as test pilots. A suggested price tag of close to £40k - how many will buy privately without a warranty?
