Today i drove my first PDK car as im looking to buy a gen 2 997 but the catch is it was a Cayman 3.4S and it didnt disappoint, what a cracking bit of kit.

Cayman S 64 plate 14k plenty factory options for £43k is the 997 that much better?

I posed the same question when considering the 991 v a 981.

Click => £37k difference in price!!

The phrase "The Cayman is a great car but it's not a 911" carries a lot less sway nowadays.

It's a 911. Enough said really, a work colleague just got a Cayman GTS, was looking at pics today. Then I showed pics of my impending 997.2 4S. It's just a bloke 911 thing, the Cayman (especially GTS) is a stunning car of course.

Perhaps it's just the engine in the back supercar thing, compared to a plethrer of mid engined 2 seaters? For me and most "blokes" I know it will always be the 911

As Bob rightly said its a 911 that's it We have 2 Boxster's in the household but only one 911 my mates only really want to play in the 911 that says it all to me good luck :thumb:

there's no denying they're incredible cars but it's the lack of hips I can't get past. Always been more j-lo than Kate moss

So the comments so far are pretty much it not being a 911, not much being said about the balance of power handling etc or even the devaluation factor.

Even for a Porsche soon to be newby i discounted the Cayman due to the its not a 911 but it was bloody good to drive, the PDK box is something else smooth as you like and the down change in sport mode was impressive.

My first Porsche was a boxster 3.4S cracking motor, never forget that car, then I went to drive a 996 cab from a dealer in Macclesfield, strangely he just threw me the keys and said take it out for an hr. bug*er he knew and an hr later a deposit was made! (And I then forgot all about the boxster)

Again all personal preference with the clutchless manual but it is the best of both worlds (without the buttons)

Hi Kev M the first Porsche I test drove was a Cayman loved it to bits but one brain just kept coming back to if I only have one Porsche in my life let it be a 911
Here is a analogy for you
Mini Cooper or Cooper S
Audi coupe Quattro or Audi Quattro Turbo
Sunbeam 1600ti or Sunbeam Lotus
Ford Escort Mexico or RS2000
I chose the latter every time its not that the former is a poor car just the latter much more desirable IMHO and in an auction house values too

...plus you are asking for opinions on 911uk so we're bound to be a bit biased!

I did not say that on purpose Badlands :floor:

mzmini - very diplomatic, I like your style...mine had a hint of Boris about it, speak first think second

Nowt wrong with a bit of Boris from time to time :floor: :thumb:

You will know you have made a wise choice when people just out off the blue walk up you and say nice car, both men and women have done this
happy hunting
cheers
MZ

I will miss tarmac rallying in the F2 Escort Maxi and all the attention that gets but time to hang up the race boots and enjoy some trips out and the odd track day.
