Good day everyone.

Having been a lurker for some time I thought I'd come out and say hi. Having been a Porsche fan since my younger days I finally took the plunge into my first Porsche a month or so back. My car history isn't particularly sexy: Renault Megane, Volvo C70, VW Golf 1.4 mk4 and BMW e92 335d... and now a manual 997.1 turbo.

I realised life is going by far too quick and wanted to tick a few boxes rather than regretting it later. The BMW, whilst fast, was a bit boring. The auto box made it super easy to drive fast and just left me a little cold. So while the BMW lacked engagement, the 997 is different... because it's an Aerokit turbo, and the front splitter is nothing short of a complete b*****d. It leaves me sweating every time I drive it. Wish I went for a normal one. It does look good though. Only mods to date are the Zunsport front grills and an car cover from specialisedcovers - I was concerned about the cover having read various reviews, but am really liking the stormshield+ cover.

Immediately after taking delivery I took the 997 on a driving trip to Florence. Which was a bit mad to be honest (came back with a few battle scars) but still a great experience.

What I was most impressed about on the road trip was the fuel economy! Phenomenal. A trip that included London to Florence, Siena, and a return trip via lake como and through Switzerland...the total fuel cost was €550. Admittedly we were driving sensibly, but to see 32mpg was a total surprise.

Anyway enough talking, here are some pictures

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new Porsche. Impressive mpg figures , did you stretch the cars legs ?

Congratulations and wow I've never heard of 30s per gallon! Have you checked it's not got a different engine 😂😂 I'm on a trip France Germany Switzerland and monza I'm getting 23 and pleased because we have been heavy with the left foot. Enjoy they are a very special car!!

Thanks guys. I too was surprised by the fuel efficiency (pic below just before we got to the magic 32). Being the first time driving in Europe, also in a RHD car, with 'enthusiastic' Italian drivers, we stuck to speed limits so didn't fully stretch the legs. It was great trip overall though, went from London to Lucca in one go which was pretty tiring but exciting.

The only downer came as we were driving back via an alpine pass, some nutter drove into the back of the car, at a hairpin, in traffic and then drove off. Reported to the local police who couldn't care less. So that's one to take on the chin unfortunately.

:welcome: to 911uk.

Great intro' and nice car.

It's nice to see a new owner of a 911 using their car as Porsche intended.

At ordinary speeds cruising on UK motorways I've never seen 30mpg but at higher speeds on Autobahns I have.

Beautiful looking car. Congrats.

I know what you mean about the 335d. I had an F30 335d. I only kept it 10 months as it was so dull and uninspiring.

Enjoy your Porsche!

:welcome:
Nice little intro and photos. There seems to quite a few variables from car to car Re. MPG. On a recent 300 mile round trip i managed 32mpg without being particularly careful!!

Congrats! Lovely car.

Gutted for you with the hit and run, hope the damage isn't too bad.

James

Thanks for warm welcome all. It's nice to part of the community.

James - fortunately it was low speed so just a rear bumper replacement.

Ragpicker - it was one of those two cars for sure. To be honest Aerokit wasn't on my list of wants, but this car had everything else so it made sense.

What are peoples' thoughts on replacing the front splitter with the non-Aerokit version? I've read that it upsets the aero balance with the rear wing - is this true?

Leave the splitter Sid as the Aero look would not be complete without it. Super looking car.

Small price to pay!
I think there is an underside [black unfinished) rub strip that can be replaced as necessary?

Welcome. Great looking turbo and introduction :thumb:

Welcome to the forum ....!

I like the 911 in silver , I had 3 silver porches and believe that silver shows the curves off really well .....
Second only in class to the Basalt Black car, which is documented as the fastest colour ...😎😎

I can see that You will just need to learn the tricks of using angles and raised approaches with the splitter, that's just one of the Porsche anomalies to learn at first ...

30+ mpg is good and rarely seen , was that an average over a long distance or just a one off short flash up of the figure?

Enjoy, and remember, as its your first .......they can bite ...!!
