Spoiler fault

Hi guys,
I've changed the engine trunk to a non-aerokit version, to go better with my (CLR) Fuchs-type wheels. Just bought it off eBay. However, I now have the dreaded "Spoiler Failure" red light and the spoiler is stuck in the up position.

I also have a complete trunk assembly in the wrong colour, which works fine (bought off eBay, but turns out it's a sod to paint and v.expensive). The wiring on the black one does look a bit shonky and I suspect it might have been tampered with

What are your suggestions for getting this new spoiler fixed:

1) Go to Indy for code read/fix?
2) Just swap the wiring and motor?
3) Try a car electrics place, see what they can do?

Anyone done 2) and is it particularly difficult?

Thanks.

p.s. trunk bought from eBay USA, so expensive to return. Am negotiating with seller as well for a contribution.
