Just curious to see what the car history is with the GT3 gang....

What got you into a GT3?

Is the GT3 the next step after a standard 911, Turbo or track car?

I went pretty much straight for a 996 GT3 (stupidly saving the extra £15,000 it woud have cost me to get the RS at the time).

Mini (original shape 1098cc)
BMW e21 316i (shark nose with 1799cc)
BMW e30 323i
BMW e30 325i
BMW e30 320
BMW e34 530
BMW e34 M5 (3.6L)
BMW e39 M5 (5.0L)..........one of my favourites and a real autobahn killer
BMW e46 M3 CSL
Mini GP MkI (supercharged)

All are stick/manual aside from the M3 CSL which I have kept despite its downside :)

Anyway, back to GT3 ownership now. And constantly smiling. Definitely not letting this go anytime soon. :)

Only move I could see me making would be 997 RS Black or Orange. (but don't think I could afford one..)

Kingston, sorry you are going to have to explain this. You third car ??? At the moment I am contemplating that you fall into one or more of the list below:

1. Are only 21
2. Keep you cars even longer than I do (I am old)
3. Live in London
4. Had an extended driving ban

How come you have had so few cars.

It is interesting to see how many are loyal to brand throughout their car ownership - until the Porsche appears.

I suppose that I'll have to explain myself too then as my first GT3 was also only the third car I'd owned (and indeed the second car that I bought as my first was a hand me down).

Mk2 Astra 1300 (base model, not even an L) - Scrapped (body rot uneconomical to repair)
E36 318i SE - traded in
996.2 GT3 - written off on the Nurburgring
997.2 GT3 Clubsport - Still got it
E93 320i - Still got that too

I keep my cars a long time as I have a philosophy that regularly changing them tends to bleed away an antisocial amount of money in depreciation so I buy for the longer term. Driving since 18, now in my 40s, no bans of any kind so far, not a city resident. For clarity though - I've driven rather more than I've owned and I had spent some time in the 964 that my parents used to have before I bought my GT3 - I didn't go into it cold from a 4 pot 3 series.

Car history, excluding the daily drivers:

1987 BMW E30 320i 2 door
1994 Toyota MR2 Mk 2
2005 Mini Cooper S
1994 MX5
2005 997 Carrera S
2007 997 GT3

996 3.4 C4 X51
996 3.6 C2
996 GT3 MKII Clubsport

That's it folks...
