A mate has been quoted - by a Porsche specialist - for some work but as neither of us have much experience/a clue on these matters I said I'd ask if the amount quoted (in GBP) is reasonable.

Replacement of both front condensors - 750...not an urgent item
One front track rod joint replaced - 200
Geometry reset after above - 220
6 coilpacks replaced - 320
RMS leaking - 650...not an urgent item

It's a garage known to most and he said they seemed like good guys - e.g. suggesting he didn't need do condensors and RMS urgently but what do you think?

As always, appreciate the help. Thumb

start by looking at the parts they are fitting, you can save loads by using someone like ECP for the condensors and coil packs.

They can, at least in theory replace track rod ends by counting the number of thread tuns removing the old track rods and screwing the new ones on the same. In any case, I would not expect to need a complete geometry reset, just tracking, and that ought to be cheap. However, it may be worth having a full geometry check anyway.

None of those are specialist jobs. I'd either do them myself or get a local mechanic doing it.

Should be looking at around £300 for the aircon sorting and about £200 for coil packs inclusive of labour & vat at a normal garage.

You don't say if it's a Turbo or non Turbo, I'm assuming a non Turbo.

Coil packs are not a difficult job to do on the non Turbo cars and I bought my set of 6 Beru from Design911 who had a deal on a set, obviously you'll do the plugs as well.

Front track rod, not a big job and as Alex has said any garage with a good mechanic can do that for you if you don't want to tackle it yourself.
Alignment at £220 is a bit steep, I got mine done recently and it was well out on the rear, for £140.
Condensors, again any good mechanic can do these and parts can be sourced from Design911 or Autodoc.

With items like this getting them done by an Indy or an OPC is not absolutely necessary as they are reasonably straight forward swaps and can done by any good mechanic.
One thing you don't make clear is whether parts are included in your prices but I would assume from the quote they will be.

Thanks fellas, looks like there could be some significant savings to be had so will suggest he makes a few more calls.

What would I/we do without this excellent forum! thumbsup

Eastern jets - I checked and parts are included in the quote and his car is not a turbo. Thanks for the input.

I had a guy fit 2 brand new condensers and regas the system in the comfort of my own garage for about £200 on a 996.

Had coil-packs replaced as part of last service for circa £250.
