My wife had a non-fault claim and after the recovery company and then hire car company were involved she started to receive a string of nuisance calls from fraudulent Claims companies. Some of whom gave fraudulent email/telephone/company details!

At the outset of the claims process, someone has STOLEN her personal data.

The first transfer of that personal data is indeed illegal, thereafter any other recipient of the stolen goods (personal details) is not considered illegal under law...

We have initiated a compliance issue with the Insurer and they believe that they may have been able to isolate the source. Although will not divulge as it is now evidently a criminal matter and sub judice.

Anyone willing to share if this has happened to them and whether they established who breached the Law?

PM me if you want and I can connect you with the investigators, if you have quality information and/or audit trail.

Probably easier to ask who hasn't suffered from this it would be a much shorter list! I get at least a couple of nuisance calls daily. Depending on what mood I'm in I either string them on a while. Let them give their spill then ask them to repeat it, then I request they do it in a different accent. Sometimes just lay the phone on the table to see how long they will talk to themselves. If I'm busy I just hang up I don't even bother saying I'm not interested. It's massively wrong and the main reason our insurance premiums keep rising but it is what it is.

Download an app called TruCaller

Fantastic Thumb all the reported spammers are listed in the app, so when one of these ****** call you , a big red logo appears , so you can bin the call Grin

If number does not flash red, and you don't recognise it , you can also paste it to the app and search the web

Oh gosh

When ever I recieve such a call. I carry on about my business but just string them along for as long as i can......

Sometimes I ask them to repeat what they said as i am having a poo and the bath room has rather an echo

Others, I say that very intersting, say again

Some i give another number to call me back on to chat, sometimes its a posh hotel, others a customer support line of some description etc

Some i ask questions on what religion they are, what football team they like, who is their favourite porn star....yep never get an answer to that one

Some i pass to myself in a different voice and ask them to repeat everything...REPEAT REPEAT

Sometimes bit not often they get quite annoyed and hang up. Mostly they hang up before i do

I used to be in this sector.

I get as infuriated as the rest of you.

The most likely source is her insurer. They will have sold on her details.

However the Police, recovery company, hire company, broker, insurer, repairer, third party insurer, hire company for the other side, the other sides broker, repairer, any taxi she might have called for a lift home also will be passing your details on.

I used to get phone calls all the time about either claims for car accidents, workplace, ppi, etc.

Whatever they ask, I just tell them I've never had a........

They then claim to remove you from the database. Not had any for quite sometime now so much have been removed from said databases.

Isn't that far easier than initiating a compliance issue with the Insurer, etc? Question

Very marginally easier, yes, but quite frankly I'd rather see someone go to prison.

Tend to agree with you on other crap like "you've got a problem with your Windoze PC". But, on this one, someone we HAVE PAID to do a job has sold the data illegally. So **** them.

They bank on apathy facilitating the process...

Whenever I get these calls and they say they are calling "about the accident I had" I ask them which one? ......and if this doesn't stump them I ask for the registration number of my vehicle they say was involved. I've yet to get a reply.
When I asked one young "lady" where she got my number from she said it was from a national register that was available from insurance companies.
I told her she was a liar and yet she still insisted it was true and that if I didn't pursue a claim with her someone else would call later.
When I asked her why she was calling a number that was registered with the Telephone Preference Service and shouldn't be called with marketing or sales calls she got more stroppy, so I continued to wind her up by telling her to stop ambulance chasing and to go and get a respectable job until she realized she wasn't getting anywhere and put the phone down.

Don't let the B'stards grind you down.... Grin Thumb

The fail safe way is to ask them for thier MInistry of Justice claims regulation number.

Try and find out who they say they are first though, as the phone will go dead after you ask that question.
