Help narrowing my search for a new car - £40k budget

Right.

I've gone back & forth, up & down.... round & around, I can't make up my mind.

I know I want a Porsche, desperately want a Porsche - but which one?

I've battled with the budget, done my best man maths, I sit with a maximum £40k for a new car, which is relatively healthy but means some likely compromise I know.

So, all things considered - I need some help identifying which car will be a combination of achievable, common sense & best intro to the world of Porsche.

I had eyed up a Hartech 997.1 c2s (the orange one, discussed on here, it's great) but with the budget & the fact it's well overpriced imo, it's not cutting the mustard. £5k less & I'd of likely purchased it over the phone

So I know I want a 911. Not a Cayman or a Boxster, despite them being brilliant.

It has to be a 997.

I only do around 4k a year, it's a weekend / holiday toy.
It will be parked on the street - London. So no garage queen. Some discussion here to be had with paint protection / ceramic coatings etc ?
I'd prefer PDK with paddles, but I understand the wheel can switched out if not present.
It must have PSE & PASM as options. Sports Chrono would be the icing on the cake.
Sports seats would be marvellous. Need to be heated, it is the UK after all.
Colour isn't especially important, despite my love for the orange beast above.
Mileage is only important in as much as I'll not put much on, so a low miler would still be a low miler in 3 or 4 years (comparatively speaking to those who use theirs as daily drivers)

So... a decent spec 997.2 for ~£40k or under.

Or

Do I get a wildcard high mile 997.1 turbo with the last Mezger, but likely an 80k+ tip example?

I know I said I want a 997, but Cayman R's are £40k

FML :frustrated:

What would you buy for £40k?

For £40k you should be able to get a decent 997.2 with decent spec from a renowned specialist (e.g. RSJ).

You shout for a leggy 997 turbo is not a bad one. Your low mileage would bring it back into the average mileage range over a number of years. The key would be to get a decent warranty; if possible. If leggy Turbos are £40k however, I may need to re think my car strategy :?

They you go, for £8k more:

A well priced 997.1 Turbo Tip from a respectable dealer, with a good warranty, at a fair price and which will undoubtedly appreciate in value.

I think that extra £8k takes it out of my reach.... for the time being. Might be able to hold fire for a few months & come back to it.

How much do RSJ move on price?

I like the white 997.2 on there, options galore & low miles. Beautiful car.

be prepared for everybody with a turbo to come along and tell you to buy a turbo :hand:

personally it depends on your circumstances and how much you are willing to spend on maintenance or warranties as older cars with higher mileages can be expensive

This one does.

Not sure how much they would move on price.

And for Phil to pop along with his calculator and work out the per week marginal cost for an extra £5k spend

If that didn't have grey interior I'd be all over it... something about grey that just diminishes the whole package :nooo:

There have been one or two leggy Turbo Tips around for just over £40k lately but I wouldn't have bought any of them in your circumstances.

Two years ago £40k would have got you into a really nice, average mileage one but now similar cars are £45k+ at specialist dealers with many nearer to £50k.

In your position I'd be searching for a Gen2 Carrera. Given the reliability of the engine I'd maybe look privately for a standard car with good history. Better still then get the current owner to put an OPC warranty on it - even if it costs you £1300 (111 point check + the warranty) to do so.

Happy Hunting. :thumb:

Yeah this is the challenge, the 997tt is already on the move, but it makes it all the more appealing to get into one (along with the fact it's all the car I'd ever need!) but I'm at the tatty end of the market.

Argh!!
