Hi guys my turbos on about 97,000 miles and I think it's due a change of the above oils. What's the recommended oils?

Cheers

Chris

Just had mine done, Mobil 75/90 I think from Opie Oils. They have discount codes all over the place. :thumb:

Need 4/5 litres.

Ok cheers, does the turbo use the same stuff? I was thinking of being lazy and getting local garage to do it as it looks like a pain to do on a drive with no ramp.

Edit just seen you have a turbo as well lol.

Is the transmission and diff oil one in the same, as in, all goes in at one spot?

Forgive my noob question, did the gear box oil and the rear diff on my R32, I definitely think it is worth doing. My Cayman has just hit 55k, want to do mine.

Im also not sure of this. I found a document that started 2.7 liters (was american) for transmission and diff so not sure if theyre linked?

Rear diff. is incorporated in the gearbox, front diff. (eg. on a C4 or turbo) is separate.

I'd be changing the front diff. oil at the same time as gearbox/rear diff.

That's what I'm wanting to get done, how much oil is in the front diff?

Can't remember, something like 0.7 litres.

While we're on this topic:
Tiptronic oil capacity and type.

Reading up and it appears that the Porsche oil is Esso ATF LT 71141
It's the same type that's used in BMW, Jaguar and Range Rover, apparently.

You can buy Mobil ATF LT 71141 - Can I take it that this is an equivalent (Esso are owned by Mobil)

Next, does anyone know the capacity? I've read everything from 3.7 litres, to 6 quarts, to 8 litres.
I'd like to know the full capacity so I know how many litres to buy (it's £11.95 a litre from Opie)

As elsewhere suggested - the front diff should be done too - why type of oil should be used for it, please?

Suggest you start a new thread on tip gearbox oil. Can't see you getting much response on this one.

Found the following here

http://www.911uk.com/docs/911_996_workshopmanual_general.pdf

Page 25

Gives the quantities required

Auto trans with torque = 9.5lt (2.06 Gal)
Diff = 0.8lt (0.17 Imp Gal)

Oil Spec = GL5 SAE 75 W 90 or GL5 SAE 90

Found the workshop manuals a great resource

:thumb:

Now I understand the format of them. :frustrated:

Thanks for that - That's the gen1 specification, I just need the manual for the gen2 now! :)

so reading on rennlist shows that you need about 4.5lt for a change.

pelican have a guide which if you read down shows the 996.2 revision for the pan also.

Going to be doing mine at the weekend, now to find some fluid....

Please let us know how you get on :) Opie and others do the Mobil ATF LT 71141 for £11.95 a litre, which I believe is the right fluid for the gen 2 box.

Are you changing the filter too?
