RANT ALERT

It seems only a year or so ago I did a thread about how good AF Insurance were, particularly for modded cars and multi car.

I received my renewal reminder in Dec from them. '...blah blah.. both cars (boxster and modded turbo) will continue to be insured for £983/y and we will take payment as planned.... you don't have to do anything....'

Great I thought. I'm happy with that and can't be bothered to look around this year, plus its very similar to what I was paying last year.

Yesterday I was followed to work (in the boxster) very closely by a police van who was mirroring my actions, even going the incorrect way to my destination to see if they were indeed tailing me. In the end they drove off but it put the wind up me so i decided to check my Insurance last night.

On the AF online portal it shows I have paid for my Insurance as planned, but only the turbo is insured, not the boxster!

I ring AF up today 'yeah, sorry sir, we no longer do Porsche multi car policies so split the policy and only insured the turbo...'

No notification of this was given whatsoever so I've been driving around in an uninsured car for the past week!

'we can provide you with a new quote for the boxster, but it won't be on a multicar policy........tip tap tip tap on keyboard...... so thats £1940 for the boxster with £700 excess....and this doesn't include the £900+ for the turbo... Do you want to go for that?'

So nearly £3k to insure both cars now as well????? :pc:

Needless to say I've rung Bridal up (winner of the 911uk best Insurance) and am waiting for them to quote me.

Fuming.

:x

Ouch, that's no good! I was with them for a couple of years with the R32 (deemed as modded with H&R ARBs), then when I got the standard Cayman, things went mental and they wanted over double some of my other quotes.

I then got robbed crashing out of the R32 year's contract.

My 993 Insurance has just come and as ever I always shop around each year although I have been with Admiral for the last three years as I have been happy with a renegotiated price each year.

I phoned Adrian Flux a few days ago ......admittedly it was quite late in the afternoon ....... about 4.40pm but was treated in a pretty off hand manner and was quoted £600 with a higher excess ...... I didn't go with the quote.

My renewal quote this year with Admiral was £509 which I renegotiated down to £469 which was not much more than last year.

Admiral also do a multi car Insurance which I looked into as I have just bought a Volvo S40 and it would have saved me a few quid but decided for this year I would have two separate insurances.

Raggy ....... that is pretty outrageous that they did not contact you about the split from multi to single Insurance and that price is ridiculous.

As ever it always pays to shop around.

That's shocking ragpicker

So they had just cancelled the Boxster Insurance totally? That's really bad.. good job the old bill didn't stop you. :nooo:

I have been with admiral for the last 6 years. Each year they quote me a silly price and then reduce it down drastically when I tell them what prices im getting quotes on confused.com.

However this year they just couldnt match hastings who quoted me £400 fully comp on my 997 turbo, doing 16,000 miles a year in it.

The 2 "specialist" insurers I tried couldnt get below £700, and cited the fact that they didnt like the fact id be doing so many miles. They felt that me poodling to work in my car as a daily or being stuck in stationary traffic was a much higher risk than someone who went out and thrashed the living daylights of their car on twisty back roads every Sunday.

That's pretty shocking, but as a matter of principle I never let them auto renew, which is pretty much asking to be ripped off.

Adrian Fu*ks up.
Were good, got too big to give customer service.
Carol Lashup went down a similar path.

AIB just got the renewal this year but only just.

My Dad had a no-fault accident in his XKR a few years back and AF were actively pushing to settle for a 50/50, even though proof/statements showed it should be the other drivers' fault.

It took months of arguing and refusing to settle before AF would eventually agree to No-Fault the claim and carry on with the reimbursement. Their attitude to attacking the customer rather than trying to defend him was enough for us as a family to stop our 3 policies and will never renew with them again.

Yep! Thats the bit I found really worrying. I'm relieved I didn't get pulled and done for driving without Insurance. I would have sued them and I don't think they would have had a leg to stand on seeing as though I've got a letter stating that they are insuring both for £900+ quid, and a bank statement proving thats the amount they've been paid.

Anyway when I protested, I've been given a 'complimentary 28hours (yes, 28 ) free Insurance on the boxster until I can find a new insurer. Needless to say it won't just be the boxster which is being insured elsewhere...

:nooo:

How do we feel about Hastings, when I came to insure the Cayman, they were cheapest by a country mile, but the online reviews put me off.

I sacked Adrian Flux off years ago when they shafted me with a flooded Audi. No help whatsoever after leading me on a very merry path telling me all would be ok, etc. and then not paying out, stripping me of my no claims and not even bothering to tell me. Set of t055ers!!!!

I think Hastings come from the same stable as several other companies including Admiral, at least they all have identical websites and documentation.

Most important thing to do is find out who the underwriters are. I've only ever claimed once and the bodyshop manager (BMW) actually sniggered when I told him who my Insurance company was. The fact that the policy was under written by Zurich soon wiped the smug look off his face!

Why don't you try Porsche Insurance themselves, I can't beat them on cost for mine...?

You have to consider it from the other way around - the more that you are on the road, the more opportunities that all of the great many muppets out there will have to hit you (including the uninsured ones and the fraudulent whiplash brigade). :nooo:

Indeed, assuming they are not uninsured then id just claim off their Insurance and so it wouldnt be a risk for my Insurance company. That and 25 years NCB on the car and about 20 years NCB on the motorbikes, along with a clean license should have told them I was very low, safe risk at ever having a claim. But, im sure they have their own logic which said otherwise.
