I am looking for my first 911. Found a 997 C2S. 24000 miles. Full Porsche SH and beautiful condition. Paid a deposit and owner agreed for it to go in for PPI i suggested a local specialist and agreed that the inspection would start with the bore scoping. Unfortunately this has revealed pitting in the number 4 cylinder. I am told the only solution would be an engine out rebuild with a likely bill circa £7000.00. On that basis I have walked away. Very disappointed but it does show the value of a bore inspection. Back to the drawing board.

You did just the right thing , there are plenty of good ones out there a couple of hundred quid well spent . and just goes to show that if a car has not been looked after using the known ways to minimise the risk it can happen at any mileage :thumb: good luck finding the right one for you keep us posted

A perfect example of what mileage tells you - jack diddly piddle!

Feel for you! That mixed or thank god I checked verses god it looks good! And then the poor seller who got to get it fixed!

Good luck with the search!!

Thanks. Feel very sorry for him as he was selling as he has been recently struck down with a crippling illness and has ended up in a wheelchair. Will just keep looking for the right one.

that's a good swerve albeit I appreciate in this instance it probably doesn't fee too good. Good luck with your search and hope to see you on here again soon :)

My old C4S had 25K when Hartec picked up scoring. Good move walking away, there is always another car.

24k and it's got pitting, apollokre1d had scoring at 25k
What it proves is they were designed to be used.
If it had 90k on the clock, it would probably have been fine.

Good for you but poor bloke

Don't think £7k will get him much of a rebuild though!

Haha, Les I love your logic. Please never stop posting.
If that car had 90k miles on it, all that would mean is that it had a rebuild 66k miles ago, as unfortunately for the owner it was one of the percentage of that model that was always going to borescore prematurely.

PJM bad luck but I'd be jumping for joy if I was you. You've dodged a very expensive bullet.
Not good for the poor seller mind but unfortunately it's the luck of the draw with those engines.

A good car will come up so enjoy the search. :thumb:

Did the Ppi reveal anything else on a low mileage car?

I would have told him that i'd still take it but for £10k less than the agreed price...

That looked like an opportunity rather than a disaster to me..
