Nothing changed on the outside this year. The inside however...

That is a very nice place to be sitting.... in so many ways! Excuse my ignorance, but what are those seats?

Thanks! They are GT3 rep seats from Design911.

I agonized about buying them for quite a while but just went for it in the end and pleased I did. I think they look oem and really add support. They are quite narrow though...

Do you happen to know who makes the seats? Can you comment on the quality? And do you know what they weight?

Thanks

I have no idea who makes them but the quality is excellent (trust me, if it wasn't I would have sent them back!). The carbon shell is thick and well designed, with stiffening ribs in all the right places, the leather is a good match for the Porsche stuff and the fitting kit was easy to fit and looks the part.
The adjusting rails are a bit universal but they do the job.
Weight is around 8kg.

Very nice indeed :thumb:

What seats did you have before and how does the new driving position compare?

Thanks! I also have a set of hardbacks which were in the car when I bought it and a set of tombstones that I swapped in because my other half found the wings on the hardbacks uncomfortable.

The new seats offer a driving position I would describe as focused. They are far more supportive for cornering than either the hard backs or the tombstones.

I found with both the previous seats that on track I was sliding about. I did fit a CG-Lock which improved matters but I still invested too much effort bracing myself rather than just driving.

No problem of unnecessary moving about with these seats though, even with the standard seatbelts. I have also found that they support my back and shoulders better, and sitting in them I naturally find that my limbs are in the right place for driving (sounds odd but it's true).

As said before though, they are narrow and getting in and out is harder. I'm 5'8" and 75kg and they fit me perfectly. Anyone who is a more generous size might want to try before they buy.

PS. Anyone want to buy some OEM Porsche seats?? :)

Loving those seats Steve

Are they the "Track Bucket Sports Seat - GTR" Code: 999700706 :?:

I`m really tempted by those and the roll cage/rear seat delete

Yes they are. Neil Allen's old car had them too. (See his 996 turbo / 9e30 thread)

Could you tell me which brackets / fixing kits / sliders to order from D911 please? (Ideally I'd like the seats as low as possible but with forward/backward adjustments)

I have the same issue with hardback seats when on track. Have CG-lock in my other car but not the 996.

Thanks.

Thanks Kris! Yes, they're the seats. I think the cage finishes it off although I did have to switch to specialist Insurance to get the car covered with it fitted.

Sure, the seat kit you want is SEATKIT01.

I think that decent seats make a huge difference on track

I fitted the D911 mount/slider kit in my Boxster when it was a temporary track car & thought it was a good solution

I had these seats in my car aswell and found them very well made and comfy even on a longer drive.
No need to buy the full universal fitting kit , just buy the heavy duty side mounts. The original subframe/ sliders unbolt from your original seats and bolt right up using the original bolts, they used the same parts on the gt2 gt3's

JD... that was me, but they ended up wanting £1600 a seat, seemed stupid! Went for the d911 seats myself and am very pleased.
