Very happy bunny today as car has just returned from Porsche Colchester, who seem to have sorted the intermittent Temp Indicator Failure that has annoyed me for the last 12 months. I replaced the water temp sensor on the block with new a few weeks ago and this did not cure this annoying fault.
I had noticed that the engine wasn't reaching 80 C when under light load, and the failure indicator would come on at around the 70C which made me think it was a thermostat issue. Also, it seemed to all work fine when on track under heavy load, so was getting a bit confused with cause and effects.
It appears the cause wasn't directly related to the temperature sensor circuit on the engine, but it was a faulty gearbox cooling solenoid that had stuck open and was allowing the coolant to pass permanently through the gearbox rad, thus overcooling the engine under light loads. Apparently, this is an occasional fault, and without the experience of the Tech at Colchester, Kev Stevens, I would have carried on down the merry path of engine temp circuit investigations.
see Health Check vid from Colchester (ignore the tyre comments, the geo was out and new tyres are on order!)

Fitted some Eurocup GT carbon mirror triangles and here is the procedure for those who also feel there life is not complete without them!
You need to remove both mirror assemblies from car, Torx screws on inside behind inner triangle.
The mirror and casing need to be disassembled. Single screw on lower mirror body and be careful you dont break the moulded tabs on the plastic casings.
The mirror arm is fixed to the outer triangle with 3 small T8 Torx self tappers.
Remove the rubber gasket and you should be able to remove the mirror mechanics from the triangle by squeezing the arms gently.
Assembly is a reverse of the above. Fit the gasket after you have the mechanics through the triangle.
The small Torx self tappers were too small for the Carbon triangles, so either fill with epoxy or use a piece of cocktail stick inserted into hol;e in C/F part to give the retaining screws something to bite onto.
Nicely moulded and a massive weight saving puh puh
Next mod will see the car being returned to Matt at Fearnsport for a Nitron suspension set up and Winter check over. _________________ 2007 Speed Yellow 997 Carrera GT3 CS

Refurbed garage floor over the past couple of weeks and used the Duramat UK 500mm interlocking PVC tiles, pleased with results. _________________ 2007 Speed Yellow 997 Carrera GT3 CS

Dropped car off with the very talented brace of Matt's at Fearnsport for fitting of Nitron suspension/geo and for Matt Counsell' s expert annual inspection and oil change. OMP wheel and replace rattling PSE exhaust diverter valves.
Was treated to Matt firing up the F40 that he has been building for the last year and most impressed with the level of detail engineering that Matt has put into the build. _________________ 2007 Speed Yellow 997 Carrera GT3 CS

Nitron 3 ways fitted with new springs and one of Matt's extensive geometry set ups. Also fitted the OMP wheel and annual oil change/checkover and new PSE valves fitted.
Pic below shows Matt's neat work of fitting the rear shock remote reservoir canisters utilising the rear engine mounts to solidly fixi the reservoirs in place yet still allow easy access for damper setting adjustment.
Whilst there, Ibrahim showed up with the Ekanoo/ES Motors 1700 hp Turbo drag car for Matt to continue work his magic on the car (currently 8.47sec 1/4 mile and 240 mph V Max!!!)

Have just fitted a Rennline "strut brace" so that I could mount the front reservoirs in a convenient position.
The plastic covers will go back over these new parts. _________________ 2007 Speed Yellow 997 Carrera GT3 CS

No, there are reinforcing bars between the turrets & the bulkhead which do a better job of anchoring the turrets anyway. The race cars don't use a strut brace so I don't suppose it's doing much for added stiffness. The RS & GT2 993 cars had a strut brace as standard from the facrory though.
Shell construction & stiffness has moved on so much since the 993 that I doubt a strut brace on the later cars is anything more than added bling. _________________ Nick

I am sure Nick's comments are valid, hence my original "strut brace" comment in inverted commas, now all I need for the "full bling" is Nitron to make some gold anodised reservoir mounts! _________________ 2007 Speed Yellow 997 Carrera GT3 CS

My daughter bought me these natty little CNC machined mounts from Nitron as a Christmas pressie to replace the tie wraps used originally, here they are fitted. _________________ 2007 Speed Yellow 997 Carrera GT3 CS
