So, I'm moving to France in 3 and a half weeks and could really do with selling my car in that time!

It's a 3.8l in silver, with 75k miles on the clock. Full service history and I've looked after it in the 3 years I've had it, only taking it to Porsche specialists etc. I've just had the alloys completely refurbed, although there is a bit of paintwork damage that I've not had time to get done - shown in pics.

Generally speaking...what can I expect for it, selling it privately? Obviously I'd put it on autotrader, but are other options worth it? Such as the trading forum on 911uk? What would the difference be if it I took it to a dealership? I'd never considered that cos I assume it's a fair bit less, but I'm under a bit of pressure time-wise!

Finally any advice on whether to do anything with the paintwork would be great, whether it's just getting a quote or actually getting the work done.

Thanks a lot!

In my opinion you need to get the damaged panels repaired as this will put most prospective purchasers off otherwise. You may struggle to get the repairs completed and the car sold in 3 and a half weeks though!

I can't help but think at this time of year with a car with some work needed your going to be lucky for a private punter to come along in the next 3 weeks! If you use a good indy id have a word with them and see what they think.
I wish you all the best and enjoy France, you could always take it with you and enjoy!!

I bought my car just before Xmas 2 yrs ago, so there are buyers out there.

Personally I'd get the damage repaired- for a prospective buyer it makes the car look a little unloved, and may wonder what else had been neglected.

I would advertise here, Pistonheads and Autotrader, price it to sell if you are in a hurry. You could consider SOR at a respected dealer, they could oversee any work needed etc and take the pressure off if you are going overseas, though of course they will take their %.

Brookspeed in Southampton will manage the repairs and sell the car for a fixed fee usually under 1k they would also undertake any work agreed by you and a buyer while you are in France so hassle free . give them a call :thumb:

As has already been said, the majority of buyers will be put off by the damage. You may well find you are inundated with deciduous offers as selling a car with damage screams to me of desperation to sell. Best of luck with your sale 😀

As Phil has pointed out .. a SOR ( sale or return ) deal with your local garage might be the best option .. they will sort out the repairs and can still have the car for sale once you have moved so less rush to sell .

If you really want to sell it ASAP

Pop it on ebay no reserve, 1P start - it will make more than a dealership will give you but less than retail (I've sold three Porsches this way - Total £80k)

Do you need it sold in 3 weeks (E.g money in the bank) - if so SOR will probably not work in that time frame.

You options are call a few dealers, send photos and get them to bid on it, advertise at very low price or take you chances on ebay. At a push you could try WBAC (and assume £1.5k off for the damage)

Is it a Manual ??

Why dont you keep it and take it to france??

Wow, great response after less than 12 hours, thanks very much all.

Pops, silvermilnec, Robert, s70 - I take on board what you say and will definitely get the work done. The newly refurbed alloys look great so with some respraying the car will look fantastic.

I'd love to take it with me, but as I'm doing a ski season with the Mrs it would purely be a weekend runabout on dry days, probably few and far between in the Alps. We will be getting a very boring SUV type to fit the snowboards etc so it's goodbye to Porsche for now

Demort/Phil, I will bear that in mind about SOR, I'm not desperate for the money particularly. First task is to get the work done,

I had a quote for ~£1200 (respraying rear bumper, adjacent panels to match etc) and £400-500 (not sure exactly, I think partial respray of rear bumper and some touching up) I'm gunna guess that most of you lot are gunna tell me to avoid a bodge job though. Would be nice to pay <£1k though :D

Thanks again all

Re the damage on the rear wheelarch... make sure whoever fixes it does a proper job and replaces the stonechip film or at least does not overspray it. The nitwit previous owner who repaired a 993 I had years ago sprayed over it and it looked dreadful.

Ski season with the Mrs sounds awesome! Wish I'd done something like that before we had kids at private school lol.

Yes...even the cheap quote at a kinda shoddy looking garage yesterday included a new stonechip film so I'd definitely be getting that. And thanks!

I seem to recall you have been trying to sell this car and looking to mechanical and bodywork fixes since June this year? If you've not achieved it, Perhaps for a straight cash off-load, why not ask We Buy Any Car or just ask around prestige non-specialists and Porsche specialists.

Be prepared for a low offer and "we've got to sink money into it to prep it, put a warranty on it" as reasons for a low offer. But at least it'll be off your hands for cash and you can go off to France.

Bodywork makes a car look tatty and doesn't attract anyone to look at it.

Leave that problem with someone else to sink cash into it before selling it on.

Final option is auction with no reserve.

Accept that you are not in a string position to command a price near where you want to be. Trying to hold out in that area may have hindered a sale since the last six months? Release that thinking and if as it sounds you are now up against limited tine to off-load, the price will be low and in exchange you are going to France with cash in pocket (not as much you'd like) but someone else's problem to sink money into it and prep it.

What's buys it now.

That was my initial thought before reading all te OPs previous posts.

Some cars are faultless....

However if it's "priced to sell"
