I took a trip up to Uxbridge yesterday and was SO impressed with the way they do things up there. Very relaxed and absolutely no pressure. I had already said that I wouldn't be buying just yet but Terry ( who looked after me) said that it didn't matter.
I now know exactly what I want to buy - it would be a gen 2 Carrera S with the PDK gearbox. Preferably speed yellow but they are rarer than hen's teeth so I won't get my hopes up there!
Terry described the way they assess cars that come in and they buy from people to sell only if they meet strict criteria. So I feel very confident that this is the right place to buy from.
All I've got to do now is save lots more bucks - so looking at about a year. I did say that if anything really good comes in before, I could always raid the husband's bank account  - not that he has agreed to anything like that.
I can't believe I have learned so much in just a couple of weeks.
Thanks to all of you who posted on my newbie thread and helped me find the 911 Virgin people. You are all stars
By the way - they need Porsches to sell if anyone wants to go that way.
Enjoy your Friday evening.
Nicola x

Good to see that you're totally hooked Nicola. :thumb:

I'll wager that it'll be far less than 12 months before we hear you've bought your dream car.

Thanks for the update I am interested in your journey and your visit to 911 Virgins as I am still considering my first purchase of a used 911 rather than go down the 718 route. I must get off my butt and visit these people ;)

 I suspect I won't last a year tbh.
Monkeynutz - you should go there. I was there about an hour and a quarter - such a change from the usual dealers attitude I think ( BMW anyway).
I can't tell you how many cars I sat in and Terry explained the whole Porsche thing - history, engine problems ( none known in gen 2 apparently), driveability etc. He's really 'sold' me the PDK even though I wanted that anyway. 911 Virgin appear to have real passion and that counts for such a lot I think. I am soooooo excited - but I have to wait - unless I win the lottery ( which is totally impossible as I don't play it)!

Nicola good to hear you have had a positive Porsche experience to date , These are such great cars I wouldn't imagine that would change as 90% of owners that are on Forums and specialists are passionate about the marque.
By the way this is by far the best of the Porsche forums. Decent knowledgeable people and friendly advice and banter 99% of the time.
I also don't think you will be a year now you have the 911 bug and have got as far as narrowing it down to a 997gen2 3.8 PDK. Fingers crossed on the speed yellow, as you say hens teeth :thumb: but glad your a fan of the brighter colours you do see more guards red gen2S for sale. if you see a Riviera blue or Mexico blue gen2 pdk for sale, I will be the bloke running down the dealers forecourt , hopefully just ahead of you :floor: :floor: :thumb:

Running ?

mmmmm ok fair point , revise that to read" walking briskly even avoiding stopping for a bacon buttie" :floor: :floor:

love it Phil :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor: :thumb:

Everybody knows Phil better than I do  obviously!

Bob has been warning all friends and relatives - 'Do not ask her any questions!' The answer will always be 911 :)
By the way - he is the biggest petrolhead in this house. He's been watching formula 1 even as a tiny boy. He loves me buying cars because he gets to thrash them and I get to pay!
I don't fight to drive his (yawn yawn) 1966 ex army shed of a landrover! The grandchildren love it though and our 14 year old grandson gets it nicely out of a slide :thumb: ( not on the public road of course!). Bob's daily drive is a sturdy 320d tourer with nearly 160k miles on the clock! Economy is his thing ..... not mine though  !

I was recommended to go to 911 Virgin to sell my 996 C4S to. Mmm lets see a two owner 2005 car 31000 miles what a great offer £22500. So before you buy just think what they paid for it, when they want you hand over at least another 10k on top of that.

If you find one of those, don't post it up on here because I'll snap it up :hand:

What were other dealers offering then?

Nicola, when you get your gen2 and start getting to some meets, I will be able to point you in the direction of the best bacon butties now that's what forum buddies are for :thumb:

Nicola, it's so good to see your passion for the 911 and you don't even have one yet! I'm with the majority here, you will be behind the wheel of the Carrera way before October 2017!

911v are a great bunch. I've spoken to Terry a couple of times and found him very helpful; Tom is also a good egg. :thumb:

I've just bought a C2S PDK 2010 997 and am super happy with it! Any questions you may still have, just ask, everyone on here is always happy to help.

I do have a few questions actually - what sort of mpg does the Carrera aspire to? ( Mine is 20 mpg roughly - 270 miles from a tankful of super unleaded).
It's a 3.6 engine I think - presume it's a straight 6?
I know it develops 380 bhp - anyone know how many nm torque?
What is the road tax on it? ( Mine is £505 now  )
I presume I'm going to be looking at 50k miles ish - maybe more - how expensive is servicing ( I would find a good independent)?

Thanks again for all your input! You all make me feel very safe on here
:)
As for bacon butties .......
