I'm quite a user of eBay, as both a buyer and a seller, both as a consumer and also a registered business (ran my last business for 6 years on there before going back into Engineering).

Anyway, cut to the chase - I thought I'd start a thread with some of the items on there I believe have been good value for money (for the price) compared with some of the prices for parts, etc. that some places charge. Please feel free to add your own links to items, or if you find a better deal, etc.

I'll start the ball rolling with these:

Wheel centre caps with free set of chrome dust caps - £8.99: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-CAR-ALL...-EMBLEM-77MM-SILVER-FOR-PORSCHE-/331643168592

Yes they fade slightly after a couple of years but for under a tenner for centre caps and dust caps - Bargain.

Aircon condenser - £39.95:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW...TOR-PORSCHE-911-996-BOXSTER-986-/290873567524

Had mine for 2.5 years now and still look like new.

iPod to Becker head unit interface lead - £7.49:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aux-adapt...hone-for-Becker-Mexico-Pro-7939-/361430925912

Mega cheap option for playing your ipod through the standard head unit.

Radiators - £56.50 each:

Right: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW...R-986-FOR-RIGHT-OFF-SIDE-OF-CAR-/281278662705

Replacement heated mirror glass with backing plate and teminals - £20.23 each:

Left: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Left-Pass...ROR-GLASS-Porsche-911-996-98-04-/121404413775

Right: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Right-Dri...-Porsche-911-Series-996-1998-04-/111429595151

Stainless steel exhaust manifolds - £111.60:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAINLESS...911-996-3-4-3-6-99-04-NON-TURBO-/400397511150

2 years old and still going strong.

Plastic 8mm rivets that hold all the plastic trims and liners on (100 pack) - £3.88:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Bumpe...vet-Panel-Clips-Fastener-100pcs-/331836249842

Door card clips (10 pack - £9.77:

Short shift kit - £38.00:

Plastic nuts that hold the plastic trims and liners on (10 pack) - 2.89:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-PLASTI...-WIDE-LARGE-COLLAR-Mercedes-BMW-/171188752339

Coffin arms - £42:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-9...nt-Rear-suspension-wishbone-arm-/271876840622

Note: be careful using them as there's some variation in length seen by some buyers.

Handbrake cable (one side) - £33.99:

Obviously some of these links may expire, but most of them are from when I purchased the parts and are still live now.

Hopefully this thread will save folk a few quid :thumb:

Great effort. I love the idea of beating the system - same for less... Otherwise known as avoiding the porsche tax.
Plus some fun fitting it all yourself.... These are good cars to work on IMHO - well put tighter and come apart and go back together quite nicely.

Awesome thread, thanks for this!

For the AC condensers, it mentions that it doesn't come with the o-rings and seals. As you've already fitted these, do you happen to remember the part number for the seals?

Thanks!

I've always just used generic halfords o-rings which come in various sizes in one box :thumb:

Nice, thanks for the tip! :thumb:

Liking this 8)

Especially the s/s manifolds feedback :thumb:

I needed new aerial for my VeDub (well, the radio works fine, but the bee-sting plastic looked a little cracked and weathered).

Volkswagen price: £23.67
Skoda price: £17.23

Now that is a pure badge tax as they are both the same part number.

I didn't call Audi for a quote.

Excellent piece of work!

Thanks!

Re: the O' Rings, I ordered my condensors for £78 a pair from eBay seller Tameside Radiators and asked for O'Rings to suit who threw in them in FOC. I know ZenBen ordered his from the same seller who also supplied him the bolts connecting the pipes to condensors FOC

:thumb: Nice one!!

Can you post the eBay link for other members to easily find them. I know some people can struggle a bit on eBay when there's so many choices and variants.

Fantastic Timing Alex - just ordered replacement left-hand wing mirror glass from your link :thumb:

Second link for condensers from Tameside Radiators as there are two types. Pipes either enter & exit the same side or enter one side and exit the others as my later 2004 C4S. Any doubts phone Ric, nice and helpful chap
