Chaps please help with advice pls!
Rear window on the 997.2 went pop last night shattered!
Auto glass refusing to help as they saying I need a new roof as it is a cabriolet and glass is built into the fabric!
Sounds a bit extreme !
Will this have a be a dealer job? Does my 75 quid excess still Apply for windscreen or am I going to have to fork out and pay my general accident excess of 500 on this car and lose no claims ?!

All advice appreciated. A bit stuck what to do!
Thanks
Sunny

Does your Insurance cover the failure of a component? I would be surprised.

Nothing to do with failure of component.
Kids I reckon ...

Oh OK. When you said "went pop" I inferred that it had done it of its own accord, which some do I believe. Something to do with the earth or the rear de-mister connection. :dont know:

Good luck with it - hope it isn't a big bill either way. :thumb:

I vaguely remember reading something somewhere about this happening too! Worth investigating!

Bad luck though, hope you can get it sorted without too much pain.

Not at all, even the MR2 mk3 had to have a new roof if the rear glass shattered. You can blame my missus for Admiral group now specifically excluding rear glass cover on convertibles btw, after hers smashed and we successfully argued that they didn't exclude it so they had to fork out nearly two grand for new roof. Funnily enough, they changed their policies soon after...

But yeah, check with your Insurance cover. You may well have to either make a claim on the proper Insurance (rather than just windscreen cover) to get a new roof fitted if you want OEM, or find an aftermarket place who can cut one in for you.

Who are you insured with?

i'm sure i have seen reconned soft tops for c£900 - iam sure one of these outfits wouldbe able to replace your window if they can recover a full hood ?

I might be thinking of a 996 but the glass can be changed separate from the roof .. You need to talk to opc or a roof canvas specialist in your area.

Either might be able to deal with your Insurance for you ... Opc might be better though.
