Wheel/Tyre dilemma

I bought a set of Carrera classic 3 wheels for my car, I didn't read listing correctly at the time and it turns out I've got 11" rear wheels which is not ideal for my narrow body.

Now the tyres are 295 / 35 / 18 and tend to rub from time to time, no great surprise given the wheels are too wide.

I intend selling the 11" rears and buying 10" in the same style of wheel as I like the wheel but I started thinking about changing tyre width etc with my existing rims to see if that would maybe do way with the rubbing problem.

Anyone have any knowledge of this, whether it would work or not or would I be better getting 2 10" rear wheels.

Cheers

You could try rolling the rear arches, I did that on mine with a cheap eBay roller and it gives loads more clearance. If you don't want to do it yourself there are companies that with do it for you.
Much cheaper than replacing wheels.

Yes options are roll the arches and look at a tyre with a different side profile not sure what tyres you have at the moment but the MPSS have a much more curved sidewall and give a sort of stretched profile and look pulled in where the side wall meets the tread. that may work for you . :thumb:

Might be better to start again. Clean the wheels up & re-list them on here or an auction website to try and get your initial payment back. Then I'd buy the correct wheels & tyres sizes. That way the car will remain correct & you'll have no problems in the future with handling and geometry etc, contact rubbing & confidence no harm is being done during spirited cornering or harsh speed bumps.

They are obviously not suitable for the car. You can consider speaking to Jasmine Porscha-Link in Nelson (lancs). I believe they are vehicle dismantlers or started life as dismantlers specialising in wheels for Porsche.

They may be best placed to offer you a cost-effective remedy by taking those off you and swapping (with/without cash adjustment) for wheels that will be suitable for your car.

Thanks chaps, I'll contact Jasmin and see what there thoughts are.

That will teach me to jump in feet first.

Do you really have 295/35 on the rear?
If so then they are not only wider but also taller than the standard 285/30. I would have thought 285/30/or 295/30 would give you back the proper gearing and be a lot less likely to rub.

Yep that's whats on the back mate.

I've got them advertised on ebay at the minute, I'm thinking of going back to the turbo wheels.

This shouldn't be a problem. The 996 GT3 is narrow bodied and runs 11" rears as standard. Do these have Turbo offsets or something (should be ET63 for a narrow car. Wide bodied offsets are ET45 and if you had those - there is your problem)? The rare SportTechno option for normal narrow bodied Carreras was also an 18x11 ET63, so that isn't a GT3 specific fitment either. On an 11, tyres should be 295/30R18 (was that a typo in your post or are taller tyres being ran to fit Supersports {which don't come in the size} or something like that?).
