Windscreen rust

Hi everyone
Last week I was planning to get my windscreen replaced after a big stone chip right in my line of sight (993 C4 - bought 2.5 years ago from a garage that had spent £10,000 refurbing it for the 50th anniversary competition)
I went to an OPC
They have found extensive rust under the seal and have quoted an eye watering £4,500 to sort it.
I realise this is a well recognised issue with this model but I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on 2 points:
1. Should this have been sorted/identified at the refurb
2. Will it recur and if so over what timescale
Thanks in advance

Thank you
Still reeling from the quote and feeling a little grumpy that it was not addressed. I am anticipating the garage saying that it must have started since I bought it, although they made a big deal about saying how much work had been done in it
I will contact Sam - thanks for the tip

if your further North go to Ninemeister, the guys will sort you out far better than any of the southern Indies, based on my experiences, better quality and at a better price.

It frustrating that having spent good money on the car you find the previous restoration was sadly lacking in detail, but thats not an uncommon position to be in. Any 993 thats having paint work, should have the screens removed as a matter of course, they will all require a differing degree's of remedial work, simply removing the screen trim does not show the full extent of the issues, based on my experience.

Good luck with the repairs.

Had mine done and more at 9m. Fab job. There is a thread on here showing the whole sorry story with pics.

I can find the link if you want.

I'm astounded that if a paint job was involved it didn't include glass out :what:

A lot of Indy restorers will be familiar with this type of corrosion so it is literally 'menu pricing' to sort. Hard to say depending on whether metal needs to be added but £500-£1,500 would be ballpark.

Perhaps they spent the £10k on sorting the corroded chassis legs. However if the missed the scuttle I doubt they found them :floor:

Any decent body shop will sort it. Just make sure the screen is properly fitted after or you'll get the same problem again.

GLassman is your man, google him.

Even if the screen if properly fitted water will still get behind the rubber seal ..... it is an inherent design fault ....... some people have used a non setting sealer to help stop the problem of water ingress under the seal.

I've had my front screen done twice in 12 years by Clark & Carter near Braintree. Very well respected bodywork specialists. Less than £1k each time if memory serves me. Reinforce the need to have windscreen refitted by somebody who understands 993 system

Yup ....... I reckon they last about 5/6 years ........ maybe more if you have the luxury of a garage ........ and even more if you have a garage, don't drive in the rain and it's never out when there is salt about ...... :)

Do not let "*****-o-Glass" anywhere near your car!!!! They f*cked my screens up big style. My car was off the road for a total of 5 months before it was sorted.
