I've just started looking for a Carrera S as described in my other thread, 'Newbie Buying Advice'.
I've seen a car that interests me sold by RSJ. From what I hear, they are very reputable and seem to cover everything of importance in their warranty (ie bore scoring). I've just emailed them regarding what cars they accept in part-ex as I want to trade in my 55 plate 350z. It's a hell of a long way to go for me from Manchester so I won't be able to view until next week. I'll see what they say in reply.

Why do you want to view? They don't allow test drive.
Buy it over the phone, they'll agree a part ex value over phone and email.
Then go down and collect it. It will be as they say, and prepped to high standard.

I couldn't buy a car from them because I cannot buy without a test drive.
But lots of people can, and do.

I haven't ever heard of anyone buying a car without a test drive. Seriously? They don't allow test drive?
Maybe if I was a pop star or a footballer. I can hold a tune but I can't play football for *****. :)

Edit: The question is mute anyway. The dealer has just taken a deposit on it. Damn! Just the colour I was looking for.

Ring 'em up. Speak to Joel or Darren.
Then post on here and update me if they have changed their stance on test drives. They will tell you its all prepped to a high standard, the bodywork will have been detailed. If its not as described or to their high standard they will tell you they'll sort it.

But it could be different today?

If it were my money I would inspect and PPI any car I was going to buy. Especially one that can have large repair bills if not right.
Even cars prepped by specialists can have a poor history, or neglect that the dealer may be unaware of.

As I said in another post, I was at RSJ about 6 months ago looking around and noticed fresh oil drops on the floor under a couple of cars, which really surprised me.

Buy sight unseen at your peril IMO. :hand:

Put a deposit down

Just put a deposit down on an 06 Carrera 4S model from RSJ. 45000 miles and seal grey. The colour I love. I'll be picking it up in about two weeks time as they need time to do the detailing etc. They'll give me 5 grand for my 55 plate 350Z so it leaves me 27 grand to pay.

Very excited!

They certainly need time to get the detailing done - I've been waiting since November for Dan to do mine the workshy, useless fop!

I brought mine without a testdrive on the basis of the description from the dealer.

Car was driven down to me (Harrogate to Hertford) and was as described. When it arrived I took it out with the person who had driven it down and went into my usual local tyre and exhaust place. They looked it over, checked the tyres, which were lower than expected, so another £300 was taken off the price as they were around 3 to 4mm no 5 to 6 as described on the rear.

About a week later I dropped into portiacraft and Martin drove it down the road and back, all was fine except the clutch was starting to go. The dealer didn't quibble and I had a new clutch and flywheel from my local indy at the dealers cost.

When yours comes down or you go up (see if they can deliver it!) take it for a 2nd tyre/exhaust etc opinion locally.

RSJ are an excellent dealer and won't risk their reputation with a bad standard car and if anything is wrong they will get it fixed at their cost. If that isn't the agreement, it really should be. What warranty do they give?

Lastly, have you put your 350Z into local garages and people like webuyanycar to see if you can get over £5k? Seems slightly low to me?

The warranty is for 12 months and covers everything including engine and gearbox faults and ALSO the bore scoring. I plan to take it to Hartech ASAP and get a low temp thermostat fitted. After the warranty expires, I'll go on the lifetime maintenance plan run by Hartech.

As far as 5k for the Z is concerned, I'm quite happy with that. Most I could probably get would be another 500 quid.

I'd check that warranty if I were you. Headline is 12 months. But it may he full coverage for 3 months, then less comprehensive to between 3-6 months and a bare bones skeleton cover 6-12 months.

I could be wrong. So check it out. I don't know any specialist that gives an all-encompassing warranty for 12 months.

Not sure you'll be able to have LTT fitted during warranty period.

That's pretty much how I recall their warranty worked.

yeah, what I meant was that the important issues are covered for 12 months. It's a sliding scale.

Everything for 3 months including parts and labour.

For the next 3 months, gearbox and engine internal failure including bore scoring. Parts and labour.

Then the final six months, gearbox and internal engine failure including bore scoring . Labour only.

Within the Indy group RSJ are respected and justly so

Put it this way / trade mine to upgrade with that company or five others

Just read this post and had to read it again . Seriously are RSJ expecting people to part with £30k plus without a test drive. I Wouldn't even drive onto the forecourt of a dealer that was that arrogant, and don't say about time wasters as there are those in every sales sector it's just part of the job.
If it's true I am amazed that RSJ have the good rep they seem to have. Maybe I should open an estate agent that makes you buy the house without viewing it. :hand: :nooo:
