Winter Tyres

I keep reading that winter tyres are better in poor weather.
But when I look for tyres the wet grip ratings vary and some are graded worse for wet grip than summer tyres. :? :? :? :?
Currently have Michelin Pilot Sports which are A rated for wet grip, so will winters make that much inprovement?

It's more about the temperature than the wet...

Standard tyres will harden when below 7c, hence reduce grip... Winter tyres are made from a compound that remains soft below 7c... Think the tread pattern also helps disperse standing water better...

I drove mine last weekend when it was 0c and snow/slush on roads and felt pretty composed...

Main problem is it doesn't seem to be below 7c much down in southern England so not sure how long they will be on the car...
