Hi guys, as for the 997.1 dont have an MP3 player/iPod connection etc, i am designing a module where you can connect the following. For the 997.2 the module will be the same but will compliment the use of all - ipod connection as im sure it has that..

iPod
SD Card
TF Card (mobile phone Mem card)
USB Stick

As other similar modules will connect either straight to the amp via inputs on cabling and output to stereo for the ones that dont have the BOSE system so there will be two ways of wiring this module and will be as normal thru fibre cabling. This module device may be fitted in the front near the dvd/disc player and have a small matchbox style box with micro click buttons fitted in the car near the arm rest for music selection. I will be designing this to be as nearer to plug and play and user friendly connection.. the power will be by mini USB whch can be hard wired (recommended) of plugged into cigarette lighter socket (still in thought for power connecting).

With the ipod you can see and select the songs you want on the ipod itself but no display will be shown on stereo system. The ipod can be fitted inside the car for your display for song selection.

With the USB Stick, SD Card and TF Card there wont be a display showing what songs are selected BUT on the circuit im designing will have a song selection UP + & DOWN - also a seperate Volume control button again UP + & DOWN - for those songs you may have that are low in recording, sometime in the near future i will be designing an add-on small LCD screen where you can see the name of the song you to select, so am in a working stage!, the price of a module kit will be cost effective meaning it will no way be as expensive as whats currently out there for the porsche owners.

Any thoughts what you guys think, any interests any ideas you may think i could add that may benefit this for yourselfs etc?

Another idea to have in my mind is a combined bluetooth system to play songs over from a mobile phone device or a bluetooth MP3 thru the device .. list goes on...

Any thoughts?

Regards

J

Sounds good, assuming it is easily disconnected for those with a warranty its something I would be interested in.

The volume of sales from Porsche owners is likely to be quite small but if it aslso suitable for other makes (Mercedes come to mind) you might be able to attract commercial sales.

Have you thought of the legal marking you are going to have to undertake, CE marking is probably required as a minimum

I am trying to commercialise two products at work and its a lot of hard work so don't underestimate the amount of work you are going to have to put into this.

Hi, yeah im gonna make it plug and play, as easy as possible! Once i build the prototype i will install it in my car and use it awhile and see how it goes!! If im happy then ill invest more time and inject more capital, also i have mates who owns mercedes and other vehicles so this way it will be one module for all with different instructions regards for wiring, as an ex-BMW (alpina) technician and car electrician ive carried out many different types of tasks as such ... so i think this will be as easy as walking in the dark with the eys shut as so to say!,

Are you designing any thing to fo with the automotive industry?

Cheers

Nope, we are plastic people.

One is a new recycling technology and the other one is looking at NDT of plastic pipe joints, we have over £1/2M invested in each projects and lots of interest from customers but getting someone to be first is proving a challenge

or am i missing something??

are you going to be a lot cheaper and easier to install is that what you mean? cause thats the only reason ive been put off by the dension. mainly the price as not much more and I can replace the headunit.

Hi, yeah the price will be cost effective, i personally think the porsche sound system is very good, i have the BOSE system with its subwoofer and am happy with it, the only thing is lacking is USB and MEM Card ports!! I personally dont listen to CD's, omly Mp3 format! So am designing a gadget that will change that! Probably not looking to go into market production but will make a handfull and make to order etc! So once ive built one ill post up the results! Am waiting for parts for construction! Theres also gonna be a bluetooth version where you could play mp3 from your mobile phone etc !! :)

Cheers

This sounds great.
We have a Denison in the wife's 997, but it hasn't been installed correctly.
Very interested in what you come up with.

Hi, regards to time scale the parts will take a few weeks to come then construction and strip down the witing of the steteo to find the correct wiring, i will make a write up as i go along and make an "idiots guide to connecting the gadget" will try and make the unit as easy as plug and play etc.

Not sure its worth it TBH

This sounds like exactly what you describe for £7:

http://www.dx.com/p/usb-bluetooth-v...player-module-w-tf-fm-12v-374212#.Vl6-vYQyFFI

However you could wrap that into a nicer packaging (with nicer buttons) it would be much more attractive.

I thought of something like that a while back, a mate of mine actually wired one into his system and fitted it neatly in to the glove compartment and did work very well, done the job he wanted, compared to £400 add on accessory to something with pocket change that will do almost the same thing, ill look into something similar, in all honesty im not looking to make money out of anyone regards to profit, if i convert something similar and works well then if anyome is interested i then can sort something out, its not about money, its about converting a dated sound system that still has good quality sound with an updated add on thats gonna be cheeeaaap and works like an updated stereo :)

Put me down for one, I am more than happy with the standard setup in my 997, but I really would like to be able to bluetooth my music, and if possible, hands free via the car's pcm.
