I've obviously been living in a hole because I've only just noticed what's been happening to classic car prices - specifically my beloved 911.

For the first time in ages I've been looking at specialist Porsche prices. 3 years ago I was a whisker away from buying a 911 (996) GT3, 2005, 27k miles for £34k. Decided against it stupidly. I've just spotted the same motor with 34k miles for £74k.

This ones even more gutting - 911 (996) GT2. They were available when I was looking back then for £40k. Well £40-50k I guess but I had a peach lined up for the lower figure. What's happened now...

Needless to say this news has not brightened my day.

My question is what niche Porsche models are still good value and haven't gone insane? And/or is there room for even the inflated models to grow considerable further?

Give me hope I can/should still get involved at some point...

People never knew, if there honest that the Porsche market on certain models would shoot up.

Other models have hit a low Boxsters, Cayenne's, 996 etc.
The A/C models have shot up, these cars not being made anymore.
The classic look of the car, people now that saw them in there teens now have money to buy one.

If I had waited till after 07 I would never have got my old classic 911.
Even now I cannot see the model I bought dropping to under £20k again.
So I was lucky to buy then, I had the money and they were in my bracket price wise. It cost you to have a Porsche money each year running cost.
Another point people, that have these cars are now spending money to look after them better due to value. Some are selling now the market is not going to drop that much value wise. So many people have now found, out the car they wanted is out of there price range because they waited?
My advice buy while you can afford, one before to long it could be out of your price range for good. Hold some money back, for a big bill or two buy the best you can for the money you have then enjoy the car.

My next tip to buy now 996 Turbo, this time next year add £5k to the current market value now.

Where have you been... Mars? :D

Prices of anything aircooled, anything RS or GT related have gone nuts.

996 TT prices have risen sharply recently.

I feel your pain, having seriously considered an 8k mile RHD 964RS Lightweight for £32k in 2003, decided against it as not safe in the back for the kiddies

996 or 997 is the cheapest way into a 911, if you can see beyond the internet frenzy over engine issues. 996 4S might follow the Turbo up a bit with luck, given it shares the same wide-body styling (he says talking up his own book) and you can get a really nice one for under £20k.
