A slow sunny Friday afternoon browsing 997's currently on offer has resulted in the discovery of a 2005 996 Turbo S with 69k miles on the clock offered for sale at £62500..I thought perhaps it's had tens of thousands of pounds spent at 9E and was now quicker than an Aventador or McLaren , but no, it's just a 2005 Turbo S with average mileage and dealer & specialist history.
Now good luck to the chap in achieving anywhere near the asking price, but having had a 996 Turbo for a number of years I know I wouldn't be sinking anything like 60 grand plus into one, I can understand to an extent the low production models such as the GT2 and GT3 RS etc but come on, an end of run Turbo with all the spare parts chucked at it....has the Porsche world gone mad?

I'd want more than £500 commission to convince someone to part with £62k...I guess the £500 must be to cover the EBay fees.

Any thoughts might have ever had about trading up to a 996 turbo have been well and truly wiped out by this car (if 996 turbo's are going to be over 50K and something like this might well depreciate to 50K in a couple of years). And remember, these guys can also be tuned easily.

At 20K 996 turbos were a fantastic buy. At 30K, hmm, still good, maybe. But 40K? Forget it. 50K? Are you insane? 60K? I despair.

Mad, sir? What, me, sir?

:floor:

Would agree that the price is somewhat optimistic but there is no doubt that the starting price for a decent 996T is creeping northwards

Exactly my thoughts :thumb:

I paid just over 23k for my 2004 996 Turbo in early 2013 and at that time 997 Turbo's were 60k..back then it was a no brainer....

I don't know really, its all relative.

I agree that at the moment the geezer asking £60+k for a 996 turbo has been on the laughing gas, but it'll cost you more than that for an average water cooled 993 C2 with similar miles, and I think they made more of them than they did the turbo. I know which car I would rather have.

I also had the pleasure of driving a 997 GT2RS yesterday for a while and was totally disappointed. If they my (tuned) car and that were for sale at the same price, I would chose mine. It felt slow, over-refined and (dare I say it) rather soulless.

So £60k for a 996 turbo which has one of the fabled mezger units and is an incredible package? Some may say it is still to find its value...

:dont know:

Madness.

The tables have turned quite dramatically....

The Real bargain now is the Real last of the Mezger's....

....A 997.1 Turbo

You have been told - Get them while you can!!

A 997 GT2 RS would set you back between £300 - £350k

I'm going to have to book the 997 GT3 RS and GT2 RS driving experience as I'm extremely keen on driving a GT2 RS to compare to my gen 2 997 turbo

Yep, I'm aware of that.

I would imagine it would feel very similar to your 97 turbo. It felt very similar to the other 997 turbos I've driven, but more powerful than a standard car and more basic inside.

The cars demanding the sky high prices such as the GT2 RS & RS 4.0 etc were produced in very limited numbers with their own model designation and are significantly different from the standard model ( I assume a GT2 RS is a bit different from a GT2 ) whereas a 2005 Turbo S is not significantly different from a 2005 Turbo with the options list ticked and an 'S' badge stuck on the back end.
I can understand to a certain extent the 996 GT2's demanding a higher price due to their limited numbers although certainly not £150k plus.
I guess the vast majority of buyers sinking money into ridiculously over-priced 911's of every model are really investors hoping that the price will continue to rise forever.
Personally I wouldn't fancy sinking 40k let alone 60k into a 996 Turbo that shares so many parts with a clapped out 996 that can be picked up for 6 grand on EBay,
I really liked my 996 Turbo, but it certainly didn't feel like 60 grands worth of car..
I know it's all down to personal choice, but the higher the price the more choice there is..
