Posted this thread on PH, but thought i would get some ideas here too.

All,

Looking for some pricing advice.

In short, family circumstances dictate i need to buy another property - and sadly the source of the deposit appears to be silver with the word 'Turbo' tattoo'ed on its arse.

In short the spec is:
2004 996 Turbo
Manual
X50 upgrade
Silver
Black extended leather
Crested headrests & Wheel centres
Usual turbo spec otherwise
60k on the clock
1 previous owner
Full Porsche Service History
Tracker
Clutch changed by Dove House at 57k
Next service due March 2017
MOT June 2016

Car has both keys, recipts, service book etc & listed at £102k when new (not relevant but always intrigues me!)

Car was PPI'd last yr when i bought it, and again by warranty direct in June before they would put their warranty on it.

Looking for some advice re private sale as have had 2 very reputable specialists offer me £40k for the car as is.

Will be looking to sell once house valuation and mortgage has been agreed, prob mid-sept. Would HATE to sell the car & house to fall through :(

Based on that I'd be putting it up privately for £44,995 with a view to getting 'more than £40k'.

Sadly, a private ad will probably get you loads of calls offering 'c£40k cash' (and less when they turn up to collect it) and/or a number of tyre-kickers/dreamers just wanting a test drive!

Have you thought of going the SoR route :?: That should net you a bit more than the £40k.

Channel and price will be driven by one factor - speed with which you need the cash so that you don't lose the house purchase.

The quickest route is sell to a dealer. But you have given away a negotiating lever by declaring the circumstances around the sale.

You have a firm offer of £40k, better than tyre kickers who'll waste your tine trying to get you to sell at £36k hoping you'll settle at £38k.

The dealer will sell it at £45-£47k. Buy you'll not get that in a private sale.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Agree with both the above posts - cheers gents!

Part of me thinks less hassle to just hand it to one of the specialists and be done with it all as far quicker and less hassle for me. tho noted that this will result in lower £ for me, but also less stress!

Will look into the SoR option...

If your not in hurry the sor option is best. To try to sell a car privately at over 40K is difficult. The buyer gets no warranty ( or potential finance in most cases ) so to get someone coming along with cash is rare. At least this way the dealer sorts out the tyre kickers and Sunday bored viewers and can offer both warranty and finance.
Have a talk to a few independants some good guys out there
Good luck

Based on the above I'd advertise for 45k, and tell prospective buyers you won't take less than 43k.
You can always take the dealer money if nobody snaps your hand off.

How much have the prices for these changed in the last year? You know what you paid only a year ago so just add a bit to that. If that comes in at around the £40k you have been offered I'd take it.

Would probably be on the forecourt for £49,995 or thereabouts - I think that it depends on how badly/quickly you need the cash - £40K for a quick sale is not bad - the SoR route would probably net you more if you can wait

SOR is a great route if you weigh up hassle vs 'fee' and realise what a few grand will save you :thumb:

But......

Some are more reputable outlets than others. I hope you check who you're thinking of using here so others can help you with your choice? :?: :success: :friends:

hi

so you have a manual x50....umm nice!!!

Write a detailed advert, link to a load of pictures on photo bucket, dropbox or similar, post up in various places at £44k firm, see who calls. Be upfront and tell em no messers will be tolerated and have in your mind to accept £42k . worth a few hours work imho?

just to gauge interest before going to a dealer, it could be worth it and might drive which route you actually take?

vs. tell the dealer £43k cash today and see what they say, you want a decision in 24 hours! do they want to make a easy £4 or 5k or not when they sell it for £47k
