Yes I know there's no such thing but I like this. If you want a track car that won't break the bank here it is! Had a lot spent on it. It is a Cat D. Reasonable price for what it is?

Even has a 167 photo build presentation

Now that is how you write an advert :thumb:

IMO i'd buy a Turbo if I was going to spend £25k on a 996.

+1

It's quite pricey at 25k for a stolen/recovered bitsa car (though done well).

Could you build another for the same price taking into account the base car may have been worth 6 or 7k as an Insurance loss?

Agreed the advert has had a lot of work.

I think it's steep but I think he would also take a decent enough offer. As a track car I wouldn't want a Turbo, if I was really looking for something to throw around the track this is the kind of thing I'd go for (as far as Porsche goes). Probably will end up accepting £18-20k I'd guess.

Not even close!!

Cat D 3.4 996: £8-10k

New parts:
GT3 KW Variant 3 coil-over suspension £2400
GT3 front top mounts £600
Eibach GT3 spec front and rear anti-roll bars £400?
Safety Devices 6 point bolt in roll cage £1200?
Recaro Apex FIA Approved racing seats £1200

Total £13800

Leaves plenty for an engine rebuild and making it mint.

Im pretty sure you will have missed many things. All the bodywork for one thing. As I'm building my own project right now I can say with certanty that there are many many items that go into building a car that are not apparent to someone else. If you looked at my car you might say it's had a rear bumper, change of wheels and side skirts. But the reality is very different, it's had thousands spent on it already.

I don't think it's worth £25k but someone might, stranger things have happened. Most likely he'll get 17-18k

Not surprised, it seems you are using brand new parts and OPC labour.

If I was building the above car, I would be using good used and refurbed parts.

Modded cars have a very limited market and it would be unlikely to get back close to what you shelled out on it.

Well you added up all the parts to come up with a price! I was just saying that you most certainly missed a lot of things.

Yes it's true there is a limited market but I'd say right now with GT3 prices going through the roof and people being scared of tracking them for ruining their resale prices (even when some say it's a keeper) this car has a better chance than ever of getting a good price.

Personally I'm using all OEM parts yes, but I'm using specialists for the majority of the work. Porsche dealers are not allowed to modify a car except the centre lock conversion which is something they offer. As far as getting back what I paid, well I'm not doing it for those reasons, I'll never sell this car not least until I'm an old man so I'm not thinking that way as I'm doing it.

That's certainly a fairly comprehensive build, and I'm sure the chap has spent his money! Weather it's worth 25k, some may say not but I bet if you were to build it then it would be around there, the labour to do something like this would be pretty substansial unless of course you can do it yourself in which case you probably would! Good car for someone, in fact I'm sure it stacks up compared to one of RPM's CSR cars ?..... (which look good also!)
Shame the cage ended up being silver! Would have been way cooler in the original black!
I wasn't quite sure what that bit of boxed welding was all about, looked like it was next to the door sills? Was this required to mount the Recaro seats? Or maybe to sit them higher?? Anyone throw some light on this, thought they would have just bolted in without welding sections in! (Might have totally missinterpreted the pics here!)

You're completely ignoring the time it took to do the conversion. Try doing a race car conversion yourself - you'll soon get to appreciate just how long it takes. Reckon on 100 hours for a Boxster.

Chris.

I think what it does show is where a lot of 996 Carrera's will go in the future. They do make for a compelling performance upgrade project. The basics are there. Potentially the sweet spot in all 911 Carrera's for such an approach given the affordability, modernity, power etc. It's exciting. There's going to be some exceptional bespoke cars emerging over the coming years.

Very true. It's taken me over 2 years so far.

:agree:

Part of me longs to buy one with a blown engine and fettle it as a long term project.......... :?:

Though finding one with a blown engine is harder than the 'chocolate engine' rumours would have you believe....... :floor:

I like it. And the whole growing 996 modding scene. Reminds me of the L90 crowd. That's not an insult either :D
