one of the things i dont like about my 996, compared with my 997 is the key, i dont find it tactile or good looking, and whilst it does its job is there a nicer porsche key that could be coded to the 996, for example the 997 or the 991 key?
are internals swappable or could a new key be programmed?
the key does seem to look dated compared to other marques out there.

I bought a carrera gt key head from Design911 a couple of months ago.

The part number on the receipt was 00004400083 and also it came in a porsche part bag with that part number on the porsche sticker.

If you go to the part number search

http://www.design911.co.uk/pages/fastPartFinder.aspx

type in 00004400

you'll see it half way down the page.

00004400083 KEY £90.47

It is a Porsche Part which you can order from any OPC. The reason I got it from Design911 is that a) they did £5 off for mentioning 911uk and their postage was cheaper than OPC.

I had a 996 for 5yrs and then this one for 2yrs so far so I got tired of the same old key.

The quality is very good and I can highly recommend changing to this. It's very simple to swap the parts over and nice to use.

Great info.
Does that part number have "GT" or "911" lettering?

does anybody know why it states not for a Targa??
I thought the keys were the same? there are no extra functions on my key to my mates C2 of the same year (2004)

I thought the Targa had a 3rd roof open/close button the same as the Cabriolet?
