996 is now a 'classic' according to Porsche

Nice link, :thumb:
I'm amazed they made more 996 than Boxsters

The most popular most successful and most critically acclaimed 911 up to that point by far. Hence the numbers.

I'm amazed as well, I wonder what the split is now between 911 Cayman and boxster.

I took mine to the Spa Classic meeting yesterday and when entering the parking was split off from the hoi polloi and invited to use the car park reserved for classic cars by the track. So it must be true ;)

It's a Kettle!! :eek:ld:

A 10 year old car a classic? Colour me synical but aint that stretching the imagination a little. Maybe an exercise to bring those owners back in and away from indies for the reduced classic rates maybe?

The first ones are seventeen years old now!

Let's face it, the term "Classic" is used for loads of reasons e.g. to justify making something more expensive, instead of using a term like "Standard" or for products which are no longer current.

It's one of those situations where it's hard to define, but you know it when you see it. To me 911 water-cooled are classic as are unmolested 996 C2/C4, but when I see a 996 Turbo or C4S, classic car isn't what it says to me :dont know:

The DVLA simply says its all vehicles built more than 40 years ago on a rolling basis each April 1st, there's no pecking order. Classic Line Insurance will quote an agreed value policy for cars over 5 years old.

No... a C4S is definitely a modern classic... it's official

An excuse for Porsche to put the prices up on parts etc then?

The term classic for most car clubs is 30+ years ie alfa, ferrari etc. Its like Ford calling the mk6 escort a classic. Crazy.

read the Cardiff Porsche news letter while mine was getting serviced and heres what that said
