Recommendation needed for 993 electrical work

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the forum and I'm looking for some advice I need a garage fairly local to West London that could do some electrical work / diagnostics on my car.

My 1997 993 targa's fan relay is currently unplugged when its plugged in the fan just stays on?

Also the airconditioning does not work?

and I would like to get a fan override switch installed.

Can anyone help with this or know of a garage that wont change the earth and to have a look and get a solution?

I have a few issues with the car as I bought it as a bit of a project so I'm not 100% it has the correct loom / HVAC (ccu) or ecu. everything works fine its just the air con and the fan relay is not in? I'm going to France/Spain in a month and would love the air con to be cold and at the last have an override switch.

any advice would be great.

Sorry I haven't added any pics yet I cant get the photos small enough to upload.
Thanks in advance,
Ashley

You need a 993 specialist rather than an 'auto electrician' so you could go to Tognola who is in Datchet (10 mins from M4) but 5-min walk from mainline train into London. He sorted my a/c HVAC out to as good as it will get. Better get onto it now as anyone good will be booked up. Others nearer Reading are good, but further out.

Which fan and/or relay is constantly activated? There's several fans in the 993: A/C condenser, oil cooler, cabin (two), climate control module fan and the and rear/aux fan.

I suppose you would like a oil cooler fan high speed override switch. Why?

I also suppose you mean that you have no extra cooling of the cabin air when you state that the air conditioning is not working? This is probably due to low refrigerant level(/leaks.

Cheers,
Tore

I had an issue with that and also the AC wouldn't switch on either

There was a small problem with the wiring loom (due to stereo installation - not by me!!)

JAZ sorted it easily and I would highly recommend them

Good luck

I'd also recommend JAZ (though not as conveniently located for West London these days). Actually, just dropped my car there today for a major service.

If I had known that Toby I would have come up with you and given you a lift back as I want to see their new set up and have a couple of things done in the next few weeks .........

Now you tell me!

Sylwester based in Perivale is worth a shout. Located just behind the hoover building.

Thanks for all the help I'll try and get something booked in next week I will try tog loa first. Currently the steering wheel is off and I can't remember which relay it was but when it's back on I'll let you know. Im also fitting an indianapolis pro (if I can find a microphone that's not £55) this week so any dodgy wiring I'll have a look at.

I have noticed that I have a lhd HVAC unit I don't know if that makes a difference?
The fan override switch was for backup if I get stuck in traffic and the fan doesn't come on? I'm driving to Barcelona in the summer so it will be really hot I expect.
Thanks

Northway PORSCHE in Reading, they are just brilliant and the customer service is just amazing!

Hi asley7715,

If your thermostat and oil cooler fan resistor are working properly your car will be fine. I drove my car in Q8 for many years where it hits 52C on a hot summers day and the car was fine. I drove it from the UK to Spain (Denia) in August 2010 and again the temperature was fine, the gauge was just below the 9 O'Clock mark all the way. I took the car down to Almeria in July 2012, its seriously hot down there and again no problems, so Barcelona should be a breeze.

My car is LHD so when you say you have LHD HAVC what do you mean? I'm just curious as these parts are the same for LHD and RHD its just which hole they are fitted into. Perhaps you could post up a pic?

ATB :)

Hi Thanks for all the comments. I have booked it in with Tognola next week.

when I pug in the oil cooler relay the fan comes on and stays on so I will ask them to look at that.

Also the LHD and RHD CCU units were sided I think. and mine appears to be a LHD one.

Did get the steering wheel back and fitted it soo much batter and I can get my legs in now easier.

The Becker Indianapolis pro is great but cant get the ipod 5 adapter working and need to get some maps from somewhere?

Trying to add some pics of the car.

Hi Asley7715,

I've attached a picture of my CCU unit which is for a LHD car so you can compare.
