996 Child Seats

Baby Car Seat to fit Porsche

I found the Maxi Cosi Tobi is the best fit and has the added advantage that the straps and buckle retract out of the way when released, so there is no need to struggle to retrieve these from underneath your child.

I does sit very close the trim at the point of the rear window and side window join. I remove the seat base (only held in by velcro)

Thanks for your responses.

We tried the Tobi and the Protec and found that they were indeed a bit of a tight fit.

The Concord Ultimax was by far the best for the 996 we tried. If / when we get another customer with a 996 in I will ask if I can take some pictures to demonstrate the fit.

Do the 996 Carreras seat differ greatly than that of the Carrera S, Turbo etc?

You could also try the BebeConfort Iseos TT which is a good seat with better lateral protection than the Tobi, and fits well.

nice to see you take great pride in your job babykit. good work.
i to have the m&p tight fit but excellent quality and our charlie will sit all day long- the porsche prince was a nightmare and cheaply made. bought mine mail order and couldnt belive how bad it was.

Hi,

I can confirm the Concord Ultimax X-Line seats (Stage 0 and stage 1) fit extremely securely in the back of a 996. I have only used it in a forward facing configuration. The Ultimax seat also supports a rear facing configuration for 0 - 9kg babies. The seat has the added benefit of a separate base which makes it easy to install in a 996. It also has a belt tensioning system which holds the seat solidly against the 996 rear seat. The other seats I tried, although fitted in the rear seats did not hold the child seat firmly. The other seats I tried included:

Maxi Cosi Priory
Maxi Cosi Tobi
Confort Bebe Iseos TT

Drawbacks of the Ultimax:
Large seat so front passenger seat would need to be pushed forward and could be uncomfortable for anyone over 5'8!
Tilt facility would push the seat even further forward rendering the front passenger seat useless for people!

I bought mine for £120 if it helps in comparisons ....

Cheers,
Prav.

The only 996 with a difference in rear cabin (height) space are the convertible and the Targa (GT3 excepted of course, due to lack of rear seats!!!)....and the Targa, only when the roof is back (otherwise it's the same as the hard top models).

The C2, C4, 4S and the TT etc are the same.

I believe seat width and leg room is identical in all 996s.

Here's the Porsche Prince in the rear car (and a booster from kidicare). Both fit a treat and both my son and daughter didn't complain about sitting in the Porsche Prince seat (but admitedly I don't think as comfortable as a traditional arm strap model....although, they both do like to sleep with their heads on the chest/stomach restraint!!!).

Note this picture is taken from the rear of a Targa with the roof back, so there is usually about 5-6" more headroom.

Cheers,
GD

Went baby seat shopping- Tried Maxi Cosi XP, Britax Trio and Mamas and Papas Pro Tec.

The M&P Pro Tec is the perfect fit and most importantly very stable. My wife is 5' 5 and had no problems with the front seat position. Even more importantly, the little on (11 months) really likes the seat and was comfy in it. Cost £119 from Halfrauds..

Child car seat for 3+

We have been using a Maxi Cosi Tobi in the back which has worked really well, but I need to move our daughter up to the larger seats designed for 3+ that restrains the child using the normal 3 point seat belt.

Welcome any experiences, suggested models etc

Thx

They look like the one's in Halfords. They did have them on sale for £50, i got one for my 3yr old (Britax i think). Not sure about dimensions but worth a look i guess.

Hi all,

If anyone is still looking for a good fit child seat, I can verfiy that the Recaro Monza fits pefectly in the back of a 996. It even has little speakers built into the headrests so you can plug a DVD player, Nintendo type game into it to save having it drown out the awful stereo that Porsches come with. i even got one to match my interior !

I put a Britax Trio, on my 911 fits ok I had to get a seat belt extension to make it fit . Please note with a baby, in I pull the seat forward a bit.

Right, I thought I'd reply to this as used this thread to try and figure out what Group 1 seat (the one after rear facing 0-9kg) to use in our 996 Cabrio. And I had a right struggle!

First point to re-iterate, the rear bulkhead in a 996 Cabriolet is different to the coupe. It is further in due to roof mechanism and is also steeper. This precludes a lot of seats and also precludes removing the seat backs a lot of them time as this then leaves the ledge jutting out and a huge gap between seat back and bulkhead.

I pre-ordered the kiddy energy pro as these apparently fit. I could not get a good fit with these or the Guardian model. The staff at a specialist tried again today and also failed. I couldn't get it to seat decently in the base so it never actually felt secure (with/without the seat bases/back removed)

Yesterday evening at Mothercare we tried the Britax Duo plus and the Britax Prince. Neither of these fitted properly and we couldn't safely secure them (sorry, should have taken photos of all these attempts!). The lady there also reckoned she had no seat in stock that would work with the cabrio.

Further reading then suggested that the only guaranteed fit (that doesn't compromise front seat position) in the 996 Cabrio is the Nanio Trio Plus (now discontinued and not exactly glowing safety report from Which), the discontinued Porsche Prince (only available on eBay) and then the 'Britax two way elite'. This is not sold in the uk by Britax so it's re-imported from Sweden by one company in England, http://incarsafetycentre.co.uk/product/2-way-elite-black-thunder/ .

By sheer coincedence, one of their three branches is 5 minutes from us and also, 1 of the only 2 Porsche Prince seats on eBay was also 5 minutes away! In my opinion the Porsche Prince isn't a good fit, it's designed to fit perfectly in the coupe so, again, doesn't match the steeper bulk head on the cabrio. Also, it's basically just a covered piece of polystyrene with an abdomen bar. With some hassle it could be wedged in but you would have to do this every time you put the child in the car.

So, I've come to the conclusion that the ONLY seat the fits the 996 cabrio back and doesn't impinge on front leg room (like the maxi-cosi tobi does) is the Britax two way elite. The only downside which I don't think you can get round is that they are very upright so if nipper falls asleep the heads slump forward.

Sorry, need to add...the discontinued mamas&papas protec is mentioned lots but I believe doesn't suit the cabrio because of the steepness of rear bulk head..

Anyone out there currently using child seats? lots of the ones mentioned in this thread are discontinued now.

I'm looking for a seat suitable for a 3yr old, so still with a harness, ideally it would be a 1/2/3 seat so that we can use it as a spare for a few years.

Planning on trying the Britax Evolva 123 SL SICT at Halfords when they get it in but I reckon it will be too wide.
