Ridiculous question pondered many times ...

I contacted Kenny Dunn - he said he would contact me if something like what I want comes in. He seems pretty good.

The specific question was - if you buy from an independent (Kenny Dunn, Hartech etc.) who seem to already have a great reputation, would you still get an independent review before parting with the cash!

It depends on the dealer and what warranty they are offering with the car.

I trusted the dealer I bought my 996T from but as it had full OPC history and was due for an OPC stamp I got an annual inspection done before agreeing to buy. A few things were picked up on which needed sorting but I'm pretty sure my dealer would have got them done during their own PDI anyway.

The ironic thing is that if I'd been buying the car elsewhere I'd have got the dealer I bought my car from to do the PPI.

Same as T8. Bought the 996 turbo from a reputed dealer and the car had outstanding OPC spend history. Got a few things checked by them although they did their own PPI and prepped it prior to advertising. Got a 6 month warranty so bit the bullet with no additional PPI.

FWIW planning to get post purchase inspection done by another specialist before warranty is up to catch any lurking horrors.

Finally bought a low mileage, 2004 996 C4S from Hartech with complete engine rebuild. :)

That is one beautiful 4S! You have a very carefully restored engine (read - better than original). Just those seats look a bit tired but nothing a competent upholsterer cant work his magic on. Now we need to get you out to a few meets. Cobalt looks great on a wide-bodied 996.

I promise, this will be the last pic ...

Very nice.

Does anyone know ... is there an audio mute button somewhere?

Or is using the the audio menu mute selection the only way?

That C4S looks fantastic. There's something particularly elegant about them. The Carrera looks more like sports car for zipping along twisty country roads. The C4S looks like it should be cruising upto a red carpet event.
