So glad things worked out for you, how they should have!!!

i would love the over rev discussion to continue though as im still not completely clear on this, there's a rev limiter so how can an over rev ever happen.......

You have a built in rev-limiter by virtue of your car being PDK so no need to worry.

PS AeroAnt, well done and congrats. Are you now able to name the OPC you are dealing with? :thumb:

That's an easy one, at 7000rpm in 3rd gear, select 2nd instead of 4th, known as a 'money shift'.

Once the lumps in, we won't hear from aero ant again.

You will. Always been an active member on the relevant forums for the cars i've owned. Although this is the first time i've had to post up about 'real' problems. Never really had any major failure in a car before. Like to have some input when i can.

I must admit I couldn't understand Stuts viewpoint. I thought perhaps it was an alter-ego he had created to hide the shame that he had bought something water-cooled!

Heres another picture. The one that made me go and have a look at it

As with he tiptronics it would be interesting to see if any PDK's register over-revs in range 3 and above, over the coming years!

Erm... At the moment no, but i'm happy to discuss some of the finer details via pm/phone.

Without wanting to open up a massive can of worms and take the thread way off topic, PDK could well be the next 'IMS bearing' or 'scored bores'.

The PDK boxes are sealed units I believe, so opening one up for repair isn't currently an option, Porsche will just fit a replacement. Great when the car's worth £60k and under warranty, but when they drop to £20k in a few years what would you do when faced with a £10-15k bill for a replacement 'box? Would be similar to the situation with failed 996 / 997 engines today.

I will add for the sake of balance that I believe the PDK boxes are very, very reliable and not likely to fail, and obviously the specialists (and maybe Porsche themselves) will most likely work out how to open up the 'box and get it back together in time if required, but even so it could be a future worry...?

:?:

What a turnaround, fantastic news, you can now have a great Christmas, all the worry gone :thumb:

Congratulations aeroant. You handled this brilliantly.

My faith in Porsche also slightly restored.

Merry Christmas.
