Where you suprised at How big that washer bottle was when you got the wing off!!

I bet our cars sit a inch lower on the passenger side when it's full of washer fluid...

Tempted to get rid of everything under that wing and use the intensive washer , might pull the A/C as well . worried the car will end up lopsided !

Well eventually found some time to get back to the car, when you buy cars of this age you don`t really know what your getting untill you start tearing it apart
someone went to the time and considerable expense to put new wings on the least they could do is put all the bolts back in ! a couple missing from the trunk side and the 2 awkward ones at the top in the wheel arch missing wing practically fell off once the bolts were out no tape or sealer on wing on any of the edges the good news is wing is perfect and only very light surface corrosion on inner wing. also removed the sill cover and good news is sill and rear quarter are perfect did notice the small packer/screw that holds the thermostat to the sill is broken something else to put on the list for repair the only other couple of bodges are the clips either end of the sill were put on with sikaflex rather than fixing the clips.and again rather than spraying underseal over the wing join its covered in waxoyil apoligies for the poor pictures .

well some more small progress got the door handles off , that`s a fun job getting the inside nut off , also got the mirrors off tried to seperate the bases for painting and broke a glass I have managed to do this with every set of mirrors I have removed so if anyone has a spare glass in the garage .

Got round to the rear bumper soon became apparent its never been off and probably why it was a different colour from the rest of the car. speed nuts screws with small heads no room to get a decent turn on them . I am going to look at alternative fittings putting them back.

The bonnet badge had been stuck on with sikaflex

Now the bad news is the lower lip/flange on the rear quarter has rotted out and still have some bubbles further along however will all get cut out just about ready to send to the metalwork man.

Great thread :thumb: but its made me very nervous about buying one now. :dont know:

Discord wouldn`t let it put you off I think its all a balance of what you will pay for a properly sorted one or one that is good to start with (hard to find) as long as the purchase price reflects condition which mine did and was aware of the body needing work, I suppose the killer is of you pay decent money which most of them seem to be asking at the moment and you find it need this degree of work. I am intrigued at the moment with 993 owners looking at the 964 not sure I would change back the way I have a 964 because I couldn`t afford a 993 !

Got the rear bumper off today drilled out the 5 rivets along the top edge , had to take the outer cover of as I didn`t have enough access to the 2 main bumper mounts because of my twin outlet fabspeed however will need to take the tips of for refitting which will be easier . One of the mounting points has corroded and broken and will require welding which would appear to be common after talking to Fuch today.

I will probably replace the center section with the RS type been looking at these ones on Ebay which are moulded rather than fibreglass

My German is a bit rusty but that looks quite decent.

I think I will, wait until you've bought your before committing.

It is on my "to-do" list for my blue one.

Very satisfying to know its going to be as clean as a q cumber Gaz , keep up the good work , all that fire wood will come in handy if it gets to cold for you in there
Keith

It was a bit of a struggle getting the rear bumper support of f, you can see the alloy corrosion on both the bolts and the retaining tabs on the bumper support both of which have broken not surprising as there was very little left, I ran the bolts over the wire wheel and the corrosion is so bad the bolts have holes in them, the bumper support tubes, one was covered in oil and is in good nick the other one from the passenger side is shot, clear the bumper has never been removed.

Ooh that looks nasty!!!

After trying to remove a couple of bolts and failing miserably and ending up with several bolts minus their heads I have the upmost admiration for your ongoing adventure. You are a very brave chap.

Carry on. :mechanic:

You would hardlt believe these two brackets came off the same car the good one (Drivers side) was covered in oil which obviously protected it so oil leaks not all bad !.

Prepped the front bumper for fitting the brake ducts all pretty straightforward and happy with the fit.

Also looking to get new j-u nuts for putting everything back does anybody know the most common sizes of these No 8 , 10 ? decent selection on ebay here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008840104...84.m1423.l2649 unless any one has a decent source.

So eventually got round to popping the windscreen out and see how far the rust went even though it doesn`t look great it really only right at the corner thats goosed the scuttle is solid a small distancee away from the rust you see didnt get time to look at the other side but pretty much the same I suspect.

remember boys its not the bubbles you have to worry about its what`s underneath

Interesting to see what lies beneath Gaz , quite shocked to see its that bad , good job you're getting that sorted now , some welding required .
Are you going to be painting the whole car ?
Keith

Yip full glass out respray on the cards been busy cleaning and prepping all the various parts , just finding the time between kids work etc you would always like it done quicker but only doing it once so its going to be done right.

Peter`s having a blast with your old car sure he will give you first dibs when he gets the Blue one sorted downright greedy having 3 911 and lost count of his engines

Drivers side scuttle not as bad as pass side
