Newbie Guide-911uk various porsche shorthand abbreviations

Abbreviations

Is there a definitions guide to the abbreviations used on this site and in relation to 911s generally?

I've been on the forum for a little while but still relatively new to Porsche ownership. While I've managed to work out most of the commonly used terms there are still one or two which have me foxed. This forum is surprisingly inclusive and welcoming so I'm hoping that the attitude isn't to use abbreviations/secrecy to keep people out.

There didn't appear to be anything in the FAQs but perhaps I missed it. If there isn't such a definitions list perhaps the moderators could start one that could be added to.

Do you have anything in mind?

Feel free to ask.

The only obscure one to a newbie I can think of is PU, for the front and rear bumpers, as they are made from Polyurethane.

Yes PU was the one that prompted my post but over the past couple of months I had struggled with MOST, IMS, PCM and a couple things in threads about the engine that I can't recall now.

At a recent meet, I did even hear another newbie comment that it had taken them a little while to realise what OPC stood for. I'm not that bad (!) but what is obvious after a while is not necessarily obvious to someone new to Porsches and this forum.

Crikey. I only know about a quarter of these, about a quarter I have seen but don't know and I haven't even come across the other half of them! :?:

Clearly I (and perhaps others) are in need of education.

GT4, over to you to do what you do best and share your wisdom...

The fourth category of the FIA GT Championship: Gran Turismo 4 (more privateers, behind GT3, GT2, GT1).

Or for me, a slightly-more-power-than-a-Carrera, but less-power-than-a-GT3, GT3-lookey-likey with 4WD.

A 997 GT4, yesterday:

What does GT4 stand for? :?:

Parliament?

Or

Because he hasn't got a chair?

Or

Because it make him feel superior?

:)

Pretty ladies, the pregnant (not necessarily pretty), the elderly.

My personal favourite internet forum abbreviation is RTFM = Read the Manual. :D
